F&V Detox = 5 lbs lost

I got a DVD from netflix called "Detox to a healthier you". I've read about detoxing lots and always found what I read to be too weird and uncomfortable (like drinking olive oil and lemon juice and doing enemas) to really consider, but this detox program was easy, not weird, and very doable. It is a 2 day detox and the biggest element of it is that you only eat fruits and veggies for those 2 days. You do a couple of other things like baths and hot water and lemon and yoga, but they're all really normal kinds of things. There are a couple of herbal remedies suggested, but I didn't have those on hand, so I didn't use them. I'm going to get them for the next time though.
So Monday and Tuesday, I tried it. It was hard toward the end, butI kept eating the fruits and veggies and I did it!! And the scale says I've lost 5 lbs! Woo hoo! And I FEEL good and that's always nice. I'm a little tired today, but she said that was to be expected. I've already planned out my eating for the day: I'm going to continue with SOME of the elements of the detox, but add back protein and a tiny amount of whole grain carbs. This detox program was such a good way to jump start my body. I'm planning doing this every two weeks (though summer is coming and the kids will be home and that always makes making my own food choices difficult) and hopefully I can maintain between. That's been my downfall...I'd lose and then due to health problems not be able to maintain.
I think it also helps that I have a renewed emphasis in my scripture study over the past week. I know that God is there to support me in all things and with His help, I can do it!

Wow! 5 lbs in two days? That's great! Is it mostly water weight? Fat? Is the point to lose weight, keep your digestive system cleaned out w/all that natural fiber, or to rid the body of toxins? I've never gone on a detox diet.Posted 05-21-2009 at 11:49 PM by natickgirl
