Class of 2008

A few months ago I made the decision to go back to school. To even go further than that, about six months ago I was prompted to go back to school. I, being the stubborn person that I am could not listen to these promptings and just kept sweeping the promptings aside. I was doing daycare 11 hours a day. There was my calling and all of my childrens activities in the evenings. How could I possibly go back to school?
Well the promptings were getting stronger and stronger until finally I put my full trust in the Lord and agreed to make plans to go back to school. I knew for this to be possible meant no more daycare for me. Where were we going to make up for the difference from the income we had from the daycare? How was I going to tell my Sister that I could no longer watch her two boys? It was a very challenging process to work out.
But it all fell in place. My Sister called me one day and somehow new I was done and started looking into other options. I proceeded to register for school at Salt Lake Community College and worked on getting financial aid. Well there was just one little glitch. I did qualify for financial aid which was great, but had forgotten one tiny little detail. I had not graduated from High School. To receive the financial aid you have to be a High School graduate. I got pregnant at an early age and as a result went to an Adult High School to finish school. I earned all of my credits but life was such that I had to leave school before putting all of my credits from both High Schools together to receive my diploma. The Community College told me to just take my transcripts over to the local Adult High in my area and get my diploma from them.
Well I did have enough credits, just not the right ones for this school district. I need one and a half credits to receive my diploma. This includes a new class that has been added called Teenage Finance. This class is teaching me how to write checks. He! He! I know I had already mastered that one. But truthfully I have loved the time away to sit in a quiet classroom to study.
So here I am back in High School. I am working as fast as I can to finish my last one and a half credit.
I am here to announce that on May 30th 2008, I will finally have a High School graduation. I even get to wear a cap and gown. I will be part of the class of 2008 and not 1994. I look forward to finally having my diploma in my hand.
Next month after I have earned my required credits I can take that to SLCC and receive the financial aid that I need to further my education. Here I go on to bigger and brighter things. Wish me Luck!!!

LnF, I'm so happy for you!!!! I've been considering heading to the USU extension and finishing my bachelor's, but I'm not feeling the pull you did- for me it's still in the consideration phase, unfortunately. I love your story about getting your diploma- you are such a good sport to just put up with what they are making you do, and I know you'll be proud of yourself for getting it going. Good luck!!!Posted 02-15-2008 at 11:16 AM by bookworm

I know what you mean about being prompted to go back to school though. I ended up in school as an adult myself....I was even pregnant during it all...fun, fun. You can do it!!Posted 02-16-2008 at 01:18 PM by Erudite

Way to go LnF....You are such a great example!! Best of luck as you continue to move forward with this goal and opportunity. My grandmother did this when my mom was in college and it was always such an inspiration to me that no matter were we are in life we can always take those opportunities to grow and learn. Keep up the great work!!Posted 02-17-2008 at 10:00 PM by trishcook
