OK, here are a few more if my favorites: Kaaterskill Falls by Allegra Goodman--fiction, about a Jewish community & it's struggles as their rabbi ages & looks for a replacement. It's more of a relationship book (not romance) than an action book. Made me really think about the role of religion, religious leaders, women, and personal agency in our lives. This Star Shall Abide--author??? is a science fiction book. Really makes you think about truth & whether an entire society should know the truth if it will only make them more discontent. It is part of a trilogy called Children of the Star. Very fascinating. This one may be difficult to find, but it is excellent if you like science fiction/fantasy. Tuesdays with Morrie author??? (non-fiction) is a wonderful but heartbreaking book about life, death, friendship, and dignity. Return from Tomorrow by George G. Ritchie (non-fiction) is about a man's experience as he "dies" in the hospital & is revived 13+ minutes later. Some would call it a "near death experience" (NDE). It was amazing to me to see how his experience completely goes along with what I believe "life" will be like after we die. I know someone who experienced a NDE & her experience was very similar to this guy's experience. Poisonwood Bible by "Barbara Kingsolver--fiction, about a preacher & his family who move to Africa to try & convert the natives to Christianity. The author is brilliant in the way she uses 4 different writing styles/voices to tell the story from different character's points of view. It also makes you think about truth, hypocrasy, and whether one way of life is better than another. And, finally, My Name is Asher Lev by Chaim Potok. Asher's inner drive to create art & his ability to feel & observe things so deeply are at odds with his orthodox Jewish upbringing. This book explores individuality vs. conformity, family relationships, religion, etc. I love nearly all the book Potok has written, but this one & it's sequel The Gift of Asher Lev are my favorites, followed by The Chosen. Anyone else have some good suggestions???

Sorry, one more thing.... I 2nd the opintion that it is worth the money to buy a membership to SLC/county library systems if your city isn't included. We lived in Bountiful, but went to the SLC library if we ever really needed good books or movies. Their selection, especially in the audio/visual section, is HUGE! You can request the materials to be sent to any location throughout the SLC network. (We'd just drive downtown since it was closest to Bountiful.)

I love to read! I love intense books or just well written. I've read just about every Grisham, I'm about done with the Twilight series which I absolutely love. The Secret Lives of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd is one of my favorites. It's really well written and interesting. The Life of Pi is also really good. I can't remember who wrote it though. The first part of it is kind of wierd and I wasn't sure I was going to finish it but once you get to about page 100 it's hard to put down!

The Secret Lives of Bees is a great book! But, people should be warned that there is some strong language in it here & there.
