Default Bridal Shower Games

I have a niece getting married in April and we are putting on a bridal shower for her on the 19th of this month. I am in charge of games...any ideas? (She said we could do whatever we wanted as long as it didn't embarrass her.)

Come up with a list of questions for her to answer about her finance. Have him answer them before the shower. Everytime she gets one wrong she has to chew a piece of bubble gum. With each wrong answer the wad in her mouth gets bigger. Of course that might be embarrasing. It is my favorite, because guest don't do anything but watch.

Personally, I think shower games are ....I'm not sure what the right word is...boring? pointless? embarrassing? But likely that is because of me and not because of the games themselves. Shower games tend to take me WAY out of my comfort zone and I avoid them if I can. Any chance just sitting around chatting will be adequate?

Erudite, I tend to feel the same. Some of the best Baby and Wedding showers I have gone to are the best because there are no games, instead we tie a quilt or otherwise create gifts for the soon to be mother or wife. For a bridal shower it might be cool to make a couple aprons, or decorate dish towels, paint a set of frames, crochet squares for a comforter, stitch on pillow cases, curtains, etc.

Those are such great ideas, Dia!

I will admit that I like the game of taking bride's and groom's names and rearranging the letters to see what other words can be formed. But then you have to go around the room and hear everyone's words and cross off yours when you have a duplicate and THAT can be not so much fun, IMOP, especially if there are a lot of people there.

I also think the advice game has its value...one piece of advice about marriage on a card the bride can take away with her...and there is a certain amount of laughter and fun that can go with that.

I guess I'm just not for games that mostly embarrass and fill time, rather than get-to-know and bless.

Let me tell you what we ended up doing because I'm not much of a party game person myself. We really wanted our games to have purpose and I think we accomplished that.

The first one wasn't really a game, but rather an activity. It was called the "love jar". You get a cute little jar and decorate it....or not....and then everybody writes on a piece of paper some advice for the bride and groom-to-be and places it in the jar. The jar is then given to the bride-to-be to take home. After they are married they can read what was written to them either every day or every week depending on how long they want to take getting through all the slips of paper. I thought it went over really well.

The other game was cleaning supplies in a bucket. You purchase a bucket and various cleaning supplies and then have everybody in the room guess the price of each item. (If you're like me you have a lot of it on hand and can just save yourself a trip to the store.) The person who guessed right on the most items wins a prize (in this case it was some chocolate, a manicure set, nail polish, & hand lotion - all purchased at the $1 store) and the bucket of cleaning supplies is a gift to the bride-to-be. You could get creative with this and do just about anything. (Laundry basket w/ laundry items, mixing bowl with measuring cups & mixes, the possibilities are endless!)

Actually thought the finance question game was cute, but knew that the gum would really embarrass my niece so didn't go with it.
