Default Christmas shopping

So this year for Christmas shopping I have gone through all the catalogs that we get and made a list of possibles. Then I got an email about how we should shop local and/or American, and I think that is a good idea but it sure complicates the process. Are you guys having any thoughts like this?

I would love to buy local & support smaller establishment. Unfortunately, I have to go with what is most affordable & convenient. 8(

[Although, I avoide Wal-Mart if there are any other possiblities!!! It's worth it for me to pay an extra $10 per shopping trip just to avoid the craziness.]

I'm trying to convice my husband to get to the point where Christmas is about helping the children learn to give rather than receive. He has spoiled them for years. He's finally realizing that we have too much stuff; he says this year he'll cut back a lot. We'll see.

Maybe if we give very little, we can afford to pay a bit extra to buy local...

I like the idea of buying locally, but do not understand how that can be done here in Tooele, when really all we have is a Wal-mart and an assortment of odds and ends little stores. I read in the paper a few years back about this very thing and they said that people just have make do with what they can find locally. If you can't find what you need locally, then change your need. However, what do you do when your 13 year old that is shaped like a woman, but the size of a girl and needs a nude leotard for dance and no place in Tooele carries anything even close. Or you are looking for a new popcorn air popper and the local Wal-mart has been out of them for months. I get pretty discouraged and resort to online or picking up things in Salt Lake.

We love shopping online for Christmas. It takes so much of the stress out of store hopping and finding good deals as well as just being able to find exactly what you are looking for.
