What's your favorite day of the year and why? Just wondering. Mine is always the last day of school because I can't stand all of the rules and somebody else determining my schedule. The last day of school is like taking off a pair of pantyhose after wearing them all day long.

I am a sucker for any holiday, but now that we are getting closer to the 4rth of July I thought I would say that this is one of my favorite days of the year expecially when you live in a smaller town such as most of us do. I love getting up early and packing a breakfast and taking my family to the local parade. I enjoy dressing my family in red, white and blue on this day. I love BBQ's in the evening, and doing fireworks or watching the big fireworks when the sun has gone down. It reminds me of what America is about and our freedoms and the enjoyment of our country.

I don't know if it is my favorite; but one of them anyway. Halloween! I love to see kids get all dressed up. It seems like a day when kids get to be kids and use their imagination. I think this day brings out the kid in most of us. Plus, I love any day in October. The weather is gorgeous it is warm in the days and cool in the evenings. The smells and colors during this time of year are my favorite. It is just a fun holiday to get together with friends and family and eat good food and have a good time. Also, can you say candy!

I love any day that my husband is home and the work is done. Even if we are just hanging out in our living room, or the backyard, I love being able to take a moment to just sit back with my husband by my side and watch my five beautiful children. I love pointing out the things they are doing and how it came about or talking over the excitement of the days and nights he missed while away. Dia

PG, that's not fair. You're in PA. Of course the fall is gorgeous out there. That's one thing I miss about WI. I totally agree, I have a son who really doesn't care for chocolate and so he gives me all of his! I love it.

I really think I would have done better, but he has just gone a week on a business trip last month and I hadn't recovered from that yet. Yep. I can't wait. Things are really coming together and it is going to be wonderful. It is going to be our first real family vacation. Dia |

I can totally understand the leaving from one thing to go to another. That is how it felt around here at one time. You're doing better than you think you are. I'm excited for your vacation. As you know, BS and I just got back from camping and that has done wonders for the dynamics of our relationship. We just needed to get away and leave our mature responsible selves at home and focus on what really matters...the family.

One of the reasons that I'm a so excited is my sister is going to take the kids for a night so Elder and I will get a night away at Seaside all by ourselves. I can't wait to stroll down the boardwalk and watch the sunset. It is always something I have wanted to do and never had the chance. It's our family vacation and quarterly night away all wrapped into one. Dia

Okay, let me get this straight. You do a quarterly night away? So that means four times a year you get away w/ just you and Elder? How do you swing that and how did you get him to agree to that? I think this is a novel idea! As you can tell, I want to know more.

The quarterly night away is more of a dream then an actual event. We have a yearly scheduled night away in June for our anniversary. His work does a big event every September in Park City. They have in the past put their employees and their wifes up for the night. Other nights when we have a late event, like going to the temple or a work party or something like that my mom would rather just keep the kids all night, than us trying to pick them up late after they really should be in bed. So in other words, it is not like we plan an actual night away every quarter. That is a goal that I would someday like to acheive. It is harder on the years there is a baby due to nursing and such, but has the kids get older it should become more of a reality. Of course we can't always afford a hotel room. Those nights we just head back home. These nights are still nice. I just pretend there is no laundry and no dishes until the kids come back.

I really think it is worth the effort. The first couple of years I would even leave and go to the room a couple hours before he would. This really helped me get out of mommy mode and made our hours together more enjoyable. The more we do it the easier it gets and I no longer need so much time alone. In fact I can honestly say it is now harder to get back into mommy mode afterwards. Dia

My favorite day of the year is any day that I can spend with my family without the worry of work. I especially like riding motorcycles -- so any day spent doing that is a good day. |

So, what constitutes a day worry of work? How do you go about getting one of these and how often can you have them?

It would take me getting all my work done before the weekend. This last vacation was a classic example, I still had work to do, but I couldn't do any of it. My work is NEVER done, so it takes being somewhere that I can't work, then I stop worrying about it.
