Get Over It Where did this phrase come from anyway and who's the idiot that coined it? If this phrase is used sincerely then I have no problem with it, but most of the time it's used because the person saying it is uncomfortable with the way we're feeling so they'd like us to get over it so they can go on living within their comfort zone. It is frustrating to me and insensitive and you don't even have to use those exact words per say. It's also in the tone of someone's voice who says something like, "Well, it's been two weeks, isn't that long enough?" Last edited by 5ft Diva; 12-05-2007 at 08:28 PM.

AMEN, sister! Way to tell 'em! I also get annoyed when you finally have your emotions somewhat under control, so people think you ARE "over it", but you know that something could set you off again days, weeks, or even months from now. Some things you never really "get over", you just learn to incorporate the feelings into every day life, knowing you'll have bad days every now & then.

Well, at the risk of starting some trouble..... I just cant hold back.... I think and would bet that a MAN was the first to say it, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't to another man! This is a joking tone

I'm sure you're right, mx. And, NG, you couldn't be more right. Luckily I'm married to a man who knows "the look" and says, "I thought you were over it, but can now see the error of my ways. Do you want Rocky Road or Burnt Almond Fudge?" Last edited by 5ft Diva; 12-06-2007 at 11:07 AM.

Well, I have used that statement with my kids, as in "Mom, he got a bigger cookie yesterday!!!" Well, get over it! I only use it with whining about trivial matters, though. (Like I've heard people say "suck it up!" same thing) I think if someone has survived trauma, or is mourning, though, it is never our place to decide they should be "done" with it!

You're not the topic, BS. It was something I wanted to address after reading about reactions to women who have had traumatic experiences in their lives, such as losing children and having miscarriages. Sorry if you felt like you were the bulls eye.
