Default Great book!!

Hey, everyone! I wasn't sure if this should be in the book club area or not, but since it's not being read by bunches of members, I thought not.

I finished this great book written by a BYU grad the other day, and I thought I'd post my opinion on it here. It is called "Twilight" and it's by Stephenie Meyer (that spelling is correct) and it's about a teenage girl who falls in love with a vampire. This book is clean, suspenseful, sweet and has a vampire- what more could you ask? It is young adult fiction, so didn't really challenge me intellectually, but it is an enjoyable read. I am waiting to borrow the next 2 books in the series from my sister next weekend, and it's driving me crazy. You know how sometimes a book just lingers in your mind long after you finish it? The thing about this girl is that she is a lot like I was at 17. Except, no boys liked me- not even vampires .

One funny note is that the author of this book is often asked "what's a nice Mormon girl like you doing writing about vampires?" LOL. Although it's not my usual fare, I really liked it. I usually read mysteries, adventures, suspense, fantasy or self-help. This one is almost a mild romance novel. I usually despise that genre. It's well told, though.

So there ya go!

I've heard that Twilight is good too, but haven't had the chance think about picking it up. So many books...so little time.

I'm in the middle of an oldie, but a goodie...Those Who Love by Irving Stone. It is the story of Abigail Adams. I've read it twice before, but I'm loving it even more than I have when I read it the last time. I'm told it's a bit of a stretch here and there on the truth, since it's historically based, but it's such a good story, that you don't mind the stretch.

Hmmm... I may have to check that one out- I enjoy historical stuff, if it's narrative. Of course, that depends on whether our little library has it. I wonder if we ought to list book recommendations here somewhere?? I am always looking for a new book or series to read.

It is a narrative...written like a novel. I'm sure you'd love it.

I thought this was a good spot to post good recommendations for books. That's why I shared mine. Hope that's ok! Share more!

Oh you're welcome! I thought they were great. My sisters gave me #s 1 and 3 for my bday, so I've still got to get #2- but I read them all before. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I also LOVED this series. I was very hesitant at first, but once I started it was hard to stop. I found her imagination in writing these books incredible and her writing style was very easy to read and enjoy. I'm looking forward to the other books in this series coming out. It's definitely young adult fiction, so not challenging at all, but fun to read and escape into.

LOL! My MIL just called to tell me how upset and angry she was at the author for ending the series the way she did- she couldn't believe Bella would choose the future she chose... I don't want to say more because of spoilers, but that made me laugh so hard. She went on and on about this nice LDS girl writing a series that ends like that- how it just made her so mad. I kept trying not to laugh. I said, "It's just a character- she didn't write the book about herself! It's okay for the character to make a choice that a real person wouldn't make!" Silly lady. She likes a nice, clean, happy ending- and in a series about being in love with a vampire, I guess there's no such thing. Funny.

Now that makes me even more excited to finish it! I have a few guesses at how it could finish but I'm sure I'll be suprised in the end.

They do, but there's a waiting list. You could borrow #1 and #3 from me, if you want, but I don't have #2... yet.
