Default Mother's Day Gifts

Sorry, Diva. I started to post on your thread about worst gifts for Mother's Day and realized I was actually saying what I would love to get for Mother's Day.

I'm kind of weird when it comes to gifts, because I don't mind getting something useful, like pots and pans, or a great set of knives. I really love for the gift to be something that would make being a mother a little easier. I would love a huge stock pot and a huge sauteing pan that would fit on my biggest burner. I would also love a really nice set of knives, but not in a holder that has to sit on the counter, because I have limited counter space.

What would you like to get for Mother's Day this year?

You are such a sweet person, Dia. Your husband is very lucky.

I like getting new things for the household, but not for Mother's Day. All I want is the day off. I ask for this every year- I would like not to just be able to sleep in and not cook meals, but also to have MY job done by the family rather than just not done for the day ! I have yet to receive this gift, but we'll see. I always tell my kids that I would love hugs and kisses~ and I always get that!

Honestly, I'm pretty easy going about it, but my DH gets kind of tense about not screwing it up and that ratchets up the tension. If he would listen to me throughout the year, he would know what types of things I want/need. I would love a new pair of running/aerobic shoes, or a yoga mat. I would also love a pair of earrings to replace my favorite pair he gave me years ago, and I dropped one down the sink . I also love flowers for the garden, any clothing item, jewelery, or a dvd. Cheap or expensive, I really just enjoy knowing I was thought of and that some effort was put out on my behalf. Oh, and one other thing- I am not his mother, thus do not necessarily want an identical gift to what he gets for her... for some reason this bothers me- maybe it's because it means he isn't really focusing on ME. A little selfish of me, huh.

But if all I get is hugs and kisses and someone else makes breakfast, I'll be very content! I really will! I have a hard time talking about what I want, because I feel like I come off self-centered and greedy. I am really very easy to please, and I appreciate anything that anyone does for me.

Dia, I don't mind the practical things as well for mother's day as long as they meet my needs. And I'm guessing that the reason you're completely content w/ receiving the practical gifts is because EF is so good at meeting your needs on any given day of the year. This is what separates some women. Some women get their needs met every day of the year because they have husbands who are capable of doing so where others only get their needs met maybe 5 days of the year because it's a special occasion and that is when the husband thinks it's time to step up and some don't even get that.

Anyway, back to what I want. I would love to be taken out on a real date - something fun and spontaneous. Not just a small trip to McDonald's because we were out together so we'll call this a date kind of thing. Or I would love to hear what things I do well as I feel I hear a lot of what I'm not doing well. Or I would also love some $$ and a couple of days to go spend it w/o feeling like I had to be back for anything because DH had everything taken care of here (although I would take baby). There's a lot of things I haven't been able to do since I started homeschooling and I would love the chance to just get out and do them again.

One of my favorite things to do on days that are special for me is to give to others so in this respect I'd love to take my kids to the park for a picnic or to the zoo. I would love to take them to Disneyland. Oh, that would be one of the best mother's day presents ever, to surprise them w/ something like that! I'd love to take them for a hike up in the mountains and just spend the day looking for bugs as I'm a bug finder as well. I know I'm saying things that I could do any day of the year, it's just really what I'd love to spend the weekend doing w/ my kids. Bottom line, if I could do nothing but just be a mom to my kids for a day (w/o the domestic duties for the day) I'd love it. Does this sound weird?

I love those ideas Diva and I have to agree that would be fun.

If all my "needs" were met, as in, I had all the little things I have lived without, but would make my life easier with, I would love a mother's ring or necklace. Something where I could proudly display my status of a mother of six. I've noticed lots of people have the little stickers on their vehicles that show their children and pets and that would be fun too. I would have a daddy, a mommy, a big girl and boy, a medium boy and girl, a little girl and a little boy with wings.

I love those, too! I've wanted to get them but don't know where they are. If someone knows of where to order those from, would you please start a thread on that?

I know that mother's day is over but I couldn't help putting in my 2 cents. I usually get flowers for the yard and I think that is great! I always love flowers for the yard, they feed my soul. This year I got a vacuum. It is beautiful and I love it. My last vacuum was taped together, wouldn't stay standing up when you weren't using it, and frankly had pretty much stopped picking things up. I thought it was especially thoughtful because I know it wasn't really in our budget. Sometimes a beautiful vacuum is just as wonderful as beautiful flowers.

My kids were even pretty good this year. Wow - what a bonus!

Yeah! A new vacuum! I love the kinds of gifts that make life easier and more enjoyable for everybody.

I told BS that I wanted enough flowers to fill my flowerbed this year (a first for me) and I have thoroughly loved it. The fact that I got them planted as quickly as I could I think says to him that I really loved it. After planting mine this year I can see how flowers feed your soul, SG. There definitely is something therapeutic about it.
