Default Neurofeedback

A counselor suggested neurofeedback for my child who has been diagnosed with ADHD to replace his medication? I had never heard of such a procedure before. I have read mixed reviews on what I could find online. Has anyone ever heard of such a treatment or known anyone with experience with this procedure?

I had to do some reading on it this morning because I had never heard of it. Sounds interesting.... I don't know anybody who's undergone this kind of treatment, however, I do know someone who's undergone Rapid Eye Therapy treatment and it was helpful. It's not the same, but it is in the sense that it is rewiring the brain. If NFB is like RET then the only thing I can tell you from what I've seen is it is a mental work out that you have to maintain. You can't go to the Dr. and expect them to do something to you and for it to magically fix the way you think for the rest of your life w/o any additional effort or conditioning on your part. Very much like getting into shape or losing weight; once a person has lost weight or is in the shape of their lives they have to keep exercising to maintain that physique. If they quit their body will slowly go back to the way it was before they worked out as if they had never done such a thing. (Does this make sense?) I wish you and your son the best! Keep us posted.

My sister's ex-husband is very manipulative, to say the least. His daughter, my niece, still has visitation with him. Consequently, my sister had her in counseling for years to help her deal with him. They both (my sister & niece) say neurofeedback helped tremendously in helping her cope with stressful situations. My niece learned how to control her feelings & emotions so that she could remain level-headed when her dad way trying to manipulate her.
