I am in the process of finding out more about RET (Rapid Eye Therapy). Do any of you know anything about it? Know anyone that's done it? Or anything?

I'm looking for real world examples or sites that explain it.

I am probably going to start RET in the next week and would like to know a little more about it before I begin.

All I can really tell you now is it's spendy, but I believe it will be worth it.

I know most of us were SO glad to get out of school, but I really love one aspect of it...the library. There is just SOOOO much to know. In my current job, I have access to several University libraries. I'm going to email 5D an article that I found about it. I hope it helps!

Also, I can send it to you if you want, but I did find another article where the author describes a successful case study of another war trauma victim, but suggests caution in giving too much credence with too little empirical data. The therapy is new enough that there aren't any large scale studies to prove its value. In some circles it has the same value as "rebirthing therapy" which, if you don't know, is widely looked down upon by the psychological establishment at best, and considered highly dangerous, even fatal, at worst. While the RET procedure sounds like it couldn't possibly be fatal and has some astonishing results, it doesn't have the full backing of the psychological community.

But neither did Alexander Graham Bell. I just wanted to give you both sides of the picture that I found.

Thank you E. That was very helpful, and I got the email from Diva and have read it, so thank you.

Ha, well the psychological community can stuff it. What they do isn't a real science either, well it is, but theirs a lot of postulation involved as well. What works for one might not work for another, so I don't take much credence in their opinion anyway. Besides, anything that's not "main stream" doesn't mean it doesn't work, or isn't valuable. Take Acupuncture, and some of the other means for medical healing. Anyway, I digress.

So what I find interesting and maybe it's just that I don't understand what you mean, is the fatal part? People die from this???

Ok, step forward to this afternoon. I went and talked to the RET (Rapid Eye Therapist) and asked all the questions I had at the time. Cleared up how it works, and what's involved. I felt really good walking away from the situation, and have a renewed hope that I can kick my problems to the curb. Doesn't mean it won't require work, but I have hope it can work. Now I'm going to take Alma's advise from Alma 32, and plant a seed and let it grow.

I think I'm going to start a blog on this process, as I really want to document the changes that happen. Should be interesting if nothing else.

Again, E, thanks for that information. It was very interesting and helpful.

I didn't think you'd be terrifically worried about the psychological community. But I did want to give some part of the other side of the picture.

EMDR isn't fatal... rebirthing therapy has been once that I saw cited and is considered to be dangerous. Since it's also a "new age" thing and unproven, it was used as a comparison to EMDR. That's all I was saying.

Good luck to you!

Rebirthing eh... I'm not even sure what that is, but if it kills you, I'm not sure I want to know either

Thank you mamallama, and yes, I've found a LOT more about it.

I attended my first session this last thursday. It was very cool, and I still need to gather all of my thoughts and create a blog on it. I'm very excited at the possibilities. It's a powerful tool.

Have you had anymore RET this week? Are you able to explain how it's done? I guess I could do research----just been lazy to look it up...

Hope things are going well!

Wow, Sissy! I didn't know you were going public with this- I'm so proud of you! I am really really glad you are doing this RET stuff. I'll be sharing your experience with my DH, and maybe you can tell him all about it one day (if you ever come over here again )

Good luck- I'm cheering too!

Well, I had my 2nd session yesterday, and it was really good. We got a lot accomplished and I can feel a difference.

Now as far as explaining how it works... I really can't explain it. Basically, for some of us we don't allow ourselves to sleep normally, so we don't process feelings, experiences, that we normally would during REM sleep.

So we go through and see if we can figure out how or why that's the case. Then resolve these issues Though RET, and then process through REM. If that makes any sense.

All I can tell you is that today I'm a mess. It's like their is a part of me that I've been holding onto for a long time, that is now gone.

Isn't that interesting that you have let something negative go and you feel the loss of it? I hope you adjust quickly. Does it affect how you sleep at night? Does it help you adjust to better REM sleeping on a regular basis?

You're going through a metamorphosis right now. Just remember that negative energy is not who you are, it's just "stuff" and you're having to take that "stuff" off in order to unveil your real identiy. I think you're doing a great job for whatever that's worth.

There was a time when I had to shed some excess baggage off of myself. The problem I then faced was then I didn't like the person that was left behind either. I felt like there was this huge hole in my life and I didn't know who I was, what I liked to do or even what I wanted to do....so I didn't know what to fill my life up with. I know it is cliche, but 'line upon line', I rebuilt myself. I decided to take tennis lessons, and learned to play tennis. Then I thought is there some service I could give---that I might enjoy giving----I volunteered to teach a little afterschool tumbling class----and I prayed and prayed and prayed and as I took each little step forward, filling it with something good, I begin to feel good about myself too.

Maybe think about something "heathy and good" that you've always wanted to learn how to do, and start planning how you might begin doing it......get the thoughts in your mind focusing and analyzing on who do I want to be, what do I want to become....what gifts or talents do I have that I might be able to share with someone else.....

I came across a quote today, believe it or not it was on the bottom of the yellow pages in the phone book----I was looking for a dog groomer---anyway
I think it's quite profound: "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." I've been pondering over that all day.

I don't know if these thoughts help at all as I don't know the depth of your circumstances.....but please know that I feel deeply for your pain and struggle and I know that with the Lord's help, you WILL be able to fill the void with goodness and strength and WILL overcome this challenge and rediscover the REAL YOU.

Well, it sounds like I decided to be the clothes folder 2 days too early. So I'm going to take back those days and start over today. But yeah, I'm someone different.

This is really odd. I couldn't concentrate this morning at all. In fact, I'm still a little lost this evening.

The Core belief that we worked on removing was "EGO" and I think that was a huge part of who I am.. err was at least. Which is more then likely why I'm feeling soo goofy.
