I went to the Jersey Shore yesterday with my family and another family. We had a blast. We played in the ocean, we made sand castles and sand dinosaurs. We walked on the boardwalk and some of the kids went on rides. I was so much fun. The lesson comes into play because I forgot to put sunscreen on myself or my husband. I put 50 SPF on Hailey, my daughter, but didn't for myself. Now I am reaping what I sowed. I am paying greatly for being so stupid. My husband and I are so burnt; we couldn't even sleep last night. Today at church was slightly embarrassing with my raccoon eyes. Someone told me it added a nice glow to my skin. I told them maybe but it isn't worth cancer. Bright red isn't the glow I am going for. Well, anyway I have a new found respect for sunscreen and plan on going out tomorrow and buying a huge bottle for myself.

I'm sorry about the burn. I have also made this same mistake. I worry about my children getting burned, but then neglect myself. I hope you feel better soon! Your day sounded like a lot of fun!

Thanks! It was a lot of fun; but it would have been more fun if I wasn't so burnt now. I don't even want to go into the sun at all today.

| Your adventures on the Jersey Shore sound like so much fun. I wish we lived closer to the beach. Not that it will make you feel any better, but I did the exact same thing just a couple of weeks ago. Well, I didn't visit the seashore, but I did madk sure everyone, even my hubby had applied a sufficient amount of protection before playing in the pools out back and completely disregaurded myself. I burnt across my upper back and both shoulders. It wasn't to bad and I felt better in just a couple of days, however, I did feel pretty stupid. I hope you feel better soon. You could always use it to your advantage and take turns applying after sun or aloe vera on each other. That actually might be kind of fun and if you added some candles and soft music, romantic too. | Oh, PG! BS and I did that exact same thing when we were first married. We were invited to go boating one Saturday and neither of us put on Sunscreen and we paid for it so bad. We couldn't move. We were each like little heaters because our skin was emitting so much heat. We peeled for a long time. I think we just took a lot of Ibuprophin and applied lots of aloe vera and never forgot sunscreen again. Good luck! I so know how you feel. The rest of the day sounds like a blast though. Thanks for sharing the details, now if I ever go to the beach, I've got some fun ideas of what to do there. |

I'm too late to help with this one, but SOLARCANE should be purchased when you purchase sunblock. Hopefully, sunblock takes care of it, but if you do get burnt, having solarcane on hand will be life saver. It's made with aloevera, but designed to take the burn out.

I am also probably too late, but Paul Mitchell makes a product called Awapuhi Moisture Mist, it's a leave in conditioner that you spray on, but it's also great for sunburns and does help the itch when it's healing.

PG, That is so sad! My DH learned a painful lesson like that they other day when we were having family over for a barbeque and he decided to cut his hair that day. He cuts it pretty short and didn't put any sunblock on and got a nice burnt head. And let me tell you; peeling skin off of a head is not a pretty sight! So I think he will always remember either sunblock or a hat from now on. I felt so sad for him. Sad when you have to learn lessons like that!

Thanks sunrisegirl! It is good to know that there are others out there that know better but still make dumb mistakes. I would have to agree; heads have got to be worst when it comes to getting burnt. I bet it looks like a bad case of dandruff.

Well, my husband finally quit burning his head and then moved on to his neck. After he burned his neck a couple of times he moved on to his back. He is very stubborn and wouldn't let me help him with sun screen and burnt in just one spot, one very funny looking spot. After learning that lesson he went to youth conference and burnt the tops of his feet. Yep, what is a girl to do. We have pictures of the spot on his back and his feet. I'll have see if I can get them posted. They really are quite funny looking. Dia
