We Are Back! I just wanted to report that we are back from our trip!
Rather than give our kids toy for Christmas (they already have too many!), we decided to give them a trip to Disneyland, Sea World and the San Diego Zoo. Santa gave them gifts that were clues to their big gift. The clues were actually things they would bring on the trip, like a sand pail for the beach, Disney water bottles, etc. The last present was from DH and me, and it was a folder with all of our hotel information and ticket confirmations. We should have made a certificate saying exactly what we were doing, because they had no idea. Our 3 year old DD, saw one of the papers and immediately said "Disneyland!" The other kids didn't even pay attention to her. We had our 7 year old DS read some of the papers, and they still didn't get it. Finally we told them, and our oldest started jumping up and down. Our 5 year old DD just sat quietly with a sweet grin on her face. They were so excited. We took DH's parents with us, which helped a lot, and was a lot of fun.
We left Christmas afternoon and planned on staying the night in Cedar City, but we got caught in the storm. It was crazy! It took us 7 1/2 hours to go what normally takes about 3 hours! Eventually we had to get off the freeway and stay in Beaver, because they were closing the freeway. It had snowed 8 inches in one hour where we were! The next day, DH's parents had planned on meeting us early that morning, but they got stuck in their driveway! We ended up leaving almost 6 hours later than we had planned on. Needless to say, we ended up in San Diego really late that night. Oh, and in order for DH's parents to fit in our vehicle with us (we have a Honda Pilot), I sat in the back seat, between two of my kids. It was definitely not roomy! But, we really wanted them to come with us.
Sea World was a lot of fun. Mainly we saw the whale shows and dolpin show. We didn't bother going on any of the rides. I loved watching the whales swim with a person. It is hard to explain it, but it was really cool. Oh, and we got to hold starfishes! They looked different than I expected.
The zoo was cool. I really loved the environment. I LOVED seeing the koala bears. They were so cute and little. I wanted to cuddle with one. We also got to see the panda bears that are here from China.
The Sunday we were there, we drove to the temple, and were happy to see that the grounds were open. Some men were there to answer any questions and to show pictures of some of the rooms inside. Some day I would love to go inside the San Diego temple. It was beautiful! We also went to the beach, which was a lot of fun. The water was cold, but it was fun to play there.
And then for three days we went to Disneyland. The first day we ate dinner with the princesses. It was awesome! My girls LOVE the princesses. We got to meet Ariel (my 5 year old DD's favorite), Belle, Snow White, Aurora (Sleeping Beauty), and Cinderella (my 3 year old DD's favorite). It was precious to see my girls' faces as they were talking to the princesses! The second day we were there was New Year's Eve. It was crazy! We were told that Disneyland hit their capacity by 10 that morning. According to the person we talked to, Disneyland can hold 90,000 people! The last couple of hours we were there, it was hard to walk anywhere. There were people everywhere. We finally found a bench to sit on and we were going to wait for the new year, but it was cold. During the day it was in the 60s to 70s, but that night it was 40 degrees and foggy, so it felt colder than that. We were only wearing fleece jackets because we thought it was going to be warmer. The kids had fallen asleep, so we went back to our hotel just in time to hear the fireworks. We felt bad, but we were so cold! It was a lot of fun to be there, though. They had DJs playing fun music, and people were dancing. Our kids loved dancing there. Disneyland also gave out hats and horns to blow, so that was fun.
The last day I took our 7 year old DS to the Lego store. He LOVED it! He has been saving his allowance, so he was able to buy some cool Bionicle sets. They were even on sale! That was probably the highlight of the trip for him.
We got back from our trip today, and we are freezing! Our trip was a blast, but we are glad to be back home! |
