My son had his surgery on Tuesday, and everything went well. Usually after his surgeries, he wakes up cranky and is cranky for several days. This time he woke up calm and sweet. He is such a good boy. For those of you who don't know, he was born with a cleft lip and palate. He has had several surgeries to fix his lip, palate, and several pairs of tubes in his ears. This time he was having a bone graft into his gumline. He was missing some bone where a few teeth were growing. The doctor made a 2 inch incision into my son's hip, to slice off some bone for the graft. The doctor said that since they had to move aside his muscles to get to the bone, his hip is going to hurt for several weeks. Yesterday he didn't want to walk, but we had to make him go for a short walk. I supported half of his weight and he tried to step lightly with his left leg (the leg they cut bone from). Today he has been walking around a little, but is still having a hard time doing it. He has such a good attitude. He joked that he is like a baby learning how to walk! So far food has been fine with him. I think that as time goes on, he will get tired of eating pureed food, but now he likes it. I love that he understands what happened and why he can't chew or run around for 6 weeks. I think that it will get hard when my daughters are home (my mom is watching them this week) and my son starts feeling better but is still restricted. I feel so blessed that my son is so good and strong. I am so thankful that he is in my family!

Amy, I'm glad to hear that everything went well for him. I didn't realize he needed more surgeries! You are a great Mom- keep focusing on the positive and I'm sure you'll all come through with joy. Isn't modern medicine amazing?

I'm so glad the surgery went well and so far your ds is doing okay with it all! I'll bet you're glad the surgery part is done. What a sweet little boy you have! We'll be keeping him in our prayers.

What a relief that everything is great! You have one amazing boy there and I can't wait to see what he does later in life after learning all he has about adversity and patience and......you name it, he's probalby learned it! Anyway, it'll be fun to see what kind of a man he turns out to be. He's already been through so much and has handled it well. Way to go for teaching him how to handle it with such a great attitude. I hope I can do that for my kids. I know who I'll think about the next time my kids go through something tough. Thanks so much for the update. I loved hearing about it and knowing that everything is okay and that you're okay. Let me know if I can take your girls for you in the future when they're home and your son is needing some time away from little people who play.

I'm so glad everything has gone so well. Your little boy is such a sweet kid. I really enjoyed teaching him in primary. He's a smartie pants! I miss him now that I'm not his teacher anymore.
