Mamallama, don't be too hard on yourself. It is pretty normal to have to take some time off for sickness, vacation, etc. I say this because we just got back from Disneyland. I planned on running 7 miles one day and 5 miles two days later. I ended up having a cold with body aches, so I only ran 1 mile the whole time I was gone. Today I was supposed to go 10 miles, but I decided I needed a day of rest. I will start fresh on Monday. My advice for you would be to not start where you left off. It took you some time to get there. Ease into it. Don't start all over, but build up to where you were. Then after a couple of weeks, see where you are. If you feel good and happy, still do the race. If you are miserable, there are still plenty of marathons just a month or two later, that you can do.

Thanks for your support...do you know of any specific summer marathons?? Well, maybe the lack of running, rested me up. I had an awesome run yesterday.....13 MILES!!! I'm halfway there!!!

Holy COW! 13 miles is a LONG way. I know the goal is double that, but that's quite an accomplishment! GREAT JOB!

Good job going 13 miles! I know you can run a marathon. When race day comes, your adrenaline will kick in, and most likely you will go faster than you trained. If not, who cares! Just make sure you have fun, and enjoy the accomplishment. Here is a list of other Utah marathons. Moab--may be in April Salt Lake City--April Provo Canyon--June (this one may be a new one) Deseret News (Salt Lake)--July 24 (I have heard this one is hard and hot) Park City--August Top of Utah (Logan)--September Mid Mountain (Park City)--September (this one is a trail marathon) St George--October

Thanks for the pat on the back BS and Runamyrun. I really appreciate it!! Thanks for the scoop on all of the upcoming marathons too! That's great to know about all of those. I'm going to check out the Provo one and see how that looks. That gives me a little more time--but I wouldn't have to spend the whole summer with continuous training of long runs either. It's very time consuming. Are you still planning on the Ogden race in May Runamyrun? I'm going to continue training as if I am, but if I don't feel ready as it gets closer I'm going to wait. By the way, welcome home! Hope you had a great trip!!

Thanks for the welcome home! We had an awesome trip. As far as I know, we are still planning on running Ogden. I didn't run while we were on vacation, and now I am sick. As long as I don't have to keep taking off time from running, I should be fine.

Yes, welcome back RAR! I forgot you went out of town. I was wondering why we haven't seen you on the boards. I can't wait to hear your thoughts on the 5K threads. Mamallama's been a great help, I just need lots of info from every perspective...you know me. Way to go ML! I can't believe you went 13 miles. Well, actually I can. I just can't imagine running 13 miles. That seems so far compared to my piddly 1.5 - 2 miles. By the way, 14 minute mile is about where I'm at. I'm worried that I'm going too slow but I don't dare speed it up too much. I want to enjoy this experience.

RAR, which Marathon have you liked the best and why? Have you run the 'Top of Utah" race in Logan? I'm thinking about that one or St. George. I notice there is one in Salt Lake on the 24th of July----I read the comments about it, and many mentioned how very hot it was---even with the race starting at 5:30am. I really would like to be ready to run one at the end of July, however seriously thinking about it, I think I'd rather wait for cooler weather, especially for my first marathon. Heat can be such a killer, especially since I'm slow, I'll be out there for a LONG time. Logan is September 15th and St. George is October 6th. Let me know what you think? Thanks!

I still think Ogden is my favorite marathon. I have loved all of the ones I have done, though. Top of Utah is beautiful. The first half of it you run down the canyon. The second half of it you run in the town. That part wasn't as much fun for me, but I still liked it. You mainly run through the neighborhoods. St George was awesome! I can't remember the scenery very much, but the support of the people was so much fun. If you are thinking about this year, most likely you won't be able to do St George. You have to register in April, and then they have a drawing to see who gets to run it. It is a very popular race.

Thanks for the info. RAR. How does the downhill descent of the TOU compare with that of Ogden's? I'm a little worried about the downhill pounding. It's painful after a while...

The downhill in TOU seems milder than Ogden. In Ogden, there was a steep downhill section somewhere around mile 5 for you. It seems like TOU was mildly downhill for the first half, and then pretty flat. Ogden was downhill, then flat, downhill, then flat, so the downhills seemed more noticeable.
