Does anyone have any recommendations on where to buy a pair of good running shoes? Do you have any particular brands or styles that you prefer? What do you look for in a running shoe, long distance running shoes in particular? I always just buy whatever is on sale and feels halfway decent on my feet….but as I’m trying to increase my mileage in running, my feet are feeling it bigtime. Blisters, pains in my arches and so forth.

Talk to runamyrun or her husband about that. They're the experts. She took me shopping last summer and we ended getting mine at Sports Authority in Taylorsville but I think I probably would've ended up getting some at Osini's over in West Jordan but didn't have enough time to go look.

They actually have a running store that you can go to that will fit you with shoes. My buddy that runs (bates) suggests going to either one of these two store to get your feet fit with some running shoes that fit the way you run. they do a Free Biomechanical Analysis were they basically watch you run and suggest shoes to match your running style. Now they are a tad more expensive, but the idea is to go there get them to fit you, buy the shoes and then use that information to buy all your other shoes else where. Anyway, here are the sites: This one is in Sandy [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] <-- This is the page you want to read I think This one is in Sugarhouse [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] Also according to my reading, the sock can make a big difference and running in a cotton sock will often add to the discomfort/blisters. So if you run in Cotton socks, that's something else to consider. I hadn't even thought about that. Hope that helps.

My husband and I go to Ossine's in Salt Lake. They are between 7200 and 7800 S on Redwood Road. They have awesome prices. My shoes are regularly $100 at other stores (Garts-is it Sports Authority now?). At Ossine's they are $80. With the miles I run, I buy 2 to 3 pairs a year. Ossine's saves me a lot of money. The mom and dad who own the store definitely do not know as much about shoes as their son. He checked my feet to see what kind of arch I have. He also looked at my old running shoes to see what kind of support I need. He also told me that I have a small heel. My feet used to slide in the shoes, when I would run downhill. He found a great shoe for my feet, and I no longer get blisters or get black toenails! Everyone has different feet, so what works for me probably wouldn't work for you. If you don't go to Ossine's, I would recommend going to Salt Lake Running Co. or Wasatch running center. And I would recommend buying a larger size than you wear in normal shoes. Depending on the shoe, go up half a size to a whole size larger. Feet tend to swell when you are running, especially when you are running a longer distance.
