Default 50/50 Diet For Inflammation

The idea is to balance your intake from the two lists. In other words if you eat something off the Acid-Forming list than balance it with something off the Alkali list. If you have any joint pain, or excema, or lots of stomach acid or anything else inflammatory related, try to choose more Alkali foods.

Acid-Forming Foods

Protein Group: beef, liver, fish, pork, eggs, ham, veal, lamb, oysters, peanuts, crab, lobster, chestnuts, pinto beans, organ meats, most nuts, navy beans, red beans, fowl, kidney beans, lentils, chickpeas

Milk Group: cheese, cottage cheese, ice cream, sour milk, oysters

Fruit and Vegetable Group: corn, plums, prunes, rhubarb, cranberries, artichokes, sauerkraut (and the juice of these)

Bread and Cereal Group: Most grains are acid forming. wheat, oats corn, noodles, grits pasta tortiallas rice, bread, cereal, tapioca, rye, cornmeal, cornstartch, crackers, cakes

Fat and Oil Group: cream, bacon, fried foods, most nuts, margarine, lard coconut, peanut better, meat drippings

Sweet Group: honey, sugar,

Misc.: Frid foods, pepper, vinegar, alcohol, mustard, pickles cocoa, tea, coffee, wine, highly seasoned foods,

Alkali-forming Foods

Protein Group: peas, soy, almonds, lima beans, brazil nuts

Milk Group: ice milk, lambsquarter, dandelion greens, kale, mustard greens, broccoli, turnip greens, collards, kelp, almonds, soymilk, molasses

Fruit and Vegetable Group: (Most fruits and vegetables and juices of these.) carrots, peas, celery, oranges, tomatoes, avocado, apples, bananas, pineapple, garlic, lettuce, cherry, strawberry, melon, grapefruit, raisin, asparagus, onion, mushrooms, figs, cucmber, dates, cantaloupe, grapes, jerusalem artichokes, pumpkin, watermelon, cabbage, peach, strawberry, spinach

Bread and Cereal Group: buckwheat, millet, barley

Fat and Oil Group: butter and most vegetable oils are neutral or slightly alkali, almonds, brazil nuts

Sweet Group: molasses

I hope this makes sense. If you have any questions, please ask. There is a lot of information out there right now on these types of diets. If you want more information, you can look up: High/Low Glycemic Diet, or Anti-inflammatory Diet.

Thanks for the tips on this Dia. My oldest has problems with inflammation. It's interesting because he has always 'craved' many of the things on the list of alkali forming foods. And has disliked many of the things on the acid list---like cheese. His doctor has told him in the past to listen to his body and eat those things that he 'feels' like....it's fascinating to me how his body naturally has told him many of the things that are good for him.......if he keeps in tune to it.

Thanks for the list----I'm going to forward it on to him.
