Default Favorite Healthy Snacks

What are your favorite healthy snacks?

Mine are:
Oranges-Orange season is on its way out. I'm so sad.
Grapes-Yeah grape season is on its way in.
Air-popped Popcorn-I love dressing it up with Kernal Seasonings. My favorite flavors are nacho cheddar and ranch. I hope they get salt and vinegar soon.

Apples. Give me a crisp juicy one any day of the year and I'll do anything for you!

Oh, and does 1 oz. of dark chocolate count? Probably not.

Raw almonds (Mmmmm)
I have to limit myself, or I could eat a 12-lb bag in one sitting.

Bananas, grapes, carrots and celery - ooooh, and watermellon

I really like pretzels and string cheese, too. I'm not sure it's super healthy, but I figure it's better than a candy bar.

I'm excited to see other ideas. I'm just drawing a blank. Possibly because my snacks aren't normally healthy.

I absolutely LOVE fresh fruit, especially when it is in season! In the summer we love to go to the farmer's stands and buy different kinds of fruit. My mouth is watering! Something else I really love is peanut butter toast. I know it isn't low in fat, but it has protein, whole grains, and carbs. It is a great snack to eat right after I go running. I also love that it has some sugar, so I feel like I am getting a treat, but it isn't as bad as a real treat. Oh, and lately I have liked Fiber One bars. They are like gooey granola bars, but they have a bunch of fiber. They are lower in fat than a candy bar, but when I eat one I feel like I have had a yummy treat.

NG, what is hummus? And what's your recipe for your smoothie? Like 2 parts____ and 1 part____ is what I'm looking for.

Hummus is a middle eastern spread that is made from cooked chickpeas/garbanzo beans. It is surprisingly good and comes in several different flavors (original--which is kind of curry-ish, garlic, sun-dried tomato). It is served cold as a dip or spread. You can usually find it in the refrigerated produce section (near the ready to eat veggie trays & cut up fruit).

I don't have a smoothie recipe. I just throw in whatever I have or whatever sounds good. I like my smoothies icy, so I usually use ice cubes and/or frozen berries. Sometimes I'll even freeze apricot juice or pineapple juice in an ice tray to add to smoothies. If I feel like it, I'll add such things as protein powder, powdered milk, flax seed, instant oats, or even nuts for extra nutrients or texture. It all depends on what you like. (When I add the "funny stuff" my kid won't drink it.)
