Okay, Dia, I'm sending this one out especially for you because I know you'll know the answer and be able to really help me! I have been feeling sluggish lately and it's even more than that. I just kind of feel like my body needs to be cleansed of yucky stuff I've eaten over the past few months. I'm not looking for a quick purge of toxins (BS got really sick doing that), but I do feel there are "toxins" in my body that need to be purged, if that makes sense. Is there something I can eat or take that will help my body feel invigorated? This may seem like a silly question, I was just wondering what you knew on this subject. I don't really have a lot of time to research this so I hope you don't mind me picking your brain. I'm not sure if I explained myself very well. All I know is how I feel and what I want to feel.

Ok Diva, Most articles I have read, say that pregnant woman should not take aloe vera juice. Then one says it is safe. Stick to just 2T a day and you shouldn't have a problem. To be safe ask your doctor first. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] Aloe vera juice is the best way I know to safely detox. Then cut back on all your refined carbohydrates (sugar, white flour, white rice, white pasta, think white). Refined carbohydrates digest quickly, giving you immediate energy and then drop off leaving you feeling sluggish. Increase your fruit and vegtable intake. Make sure you are getting enough to eat. Good snacks include something with a carbohydrate and a protein with fat. Think nuts and fruit, whole wheat pasta and veggies with olive oil, and tuna salad, with whole wheat toast and flax seed oil. You want something that will give you immediate energy-fruit, pasta, toast, and then something that is a slow release energy-healthy fats, protein. Try to eat as many whole foods as possible. Cut back any processed foods. Processed foods have a lot additives that can build up. Remember also that you are creating a little person. A lot of your energy is going to building that baby. So get enough rest and drink lots of water. Thanks for making feel so special. I feel like my ability to learn and my knowledge in healthy eating is a blessing. When it comes to learning, nothing is as easy to me as when I learn about food and what it does for our bodies. I love to share and help whenever and wherever I can. Dia

Oh, and vitamin B's. Vitamin B's are the energy vitamins. Check with your doctor on how much in a supllement. Otherwise, foods with vitamin B's include, bananas, potatoes (eat them with the skins), turkey, tuna. Also iron. Low iron can cause sluggishnish and is common in pregancy. Ask your doctor about supplement. Iron foods include beef, some cereals, liver, and greens (spinach), cashews, beans, raisins, dried apricots, prunes and walnuts. Dia

One more thing; following an anti-inflammatory diet, will also help with your back. There is a thread called 50/50 diet, or something like that, eat as many foods from the anti-inflammatory list as you can and cut back on the flammatory. Please, just make sure you ask your doctor first. Pregnancy makes our bodies react different to different things, so your doctor needs to know of any changes you are making. Especially when it comes to supplements, like vitamins and minerals and the aloe vera juice.

Thanks, Dia! This really has helped. I appreciate you keeping it simple for my simple mindedness when it comes to being healthy. I really don't know very much. Plus, this article on the 50/50 diet, is it on here or on another website?

Thank you. Oh, and I went to the store and all I could find (as far as nuts) were unsalted peanuts. How much should I have a day?

That is weird. What store did you go to? Your asking how much a day? I would say a serving for a snack or divide it up into two servings for snacking throughout the day. Just look on the container and it should tell you how much is in a serving. Just so you know almonds are my favorite. Sorry, I seem to have failed to mention that before. I get them whole natural no salt added at Macey's in the snack aisle. Dia

Okay, so this question is pretty personal, but is your "sluggishness" really mild daily constipation? If you do find that you're having trouble in that area start trying to eat lots of fiber (which I can never seem to do) and/or start taking a fiber supplement. All the really good ones are ones that you get in a health food store. They are WAY better than the ones in the grocery stores. As I am also preggo right now I always feel "sluggish", but for me I know that it's mild constipation, or everything just moving way slower than normal. When I take my daily fiber, I feel a LOT better. And I just ran out, so I better run to the health food store ASAP!!!

Aloe vera juice will help with that teeny. 2T a day should get things moving again. It will also help boost your immune system, which takes a dive when your pregnant. To many fiber supplements can cause problems if you are not getting enough of the other good stuff for it to attach on to. 4-8 grams of supplement fiber is ok if you are already making healthy food choices. Any more than that and not eating enough natural fibers from fruits, veggies and whole grains, can really mess you up. I'm talking from experience here. Dia

Good tip Dia! I never even thought of doing Aloe for that. Where do you buy your Aloe? Is it expensive? And can you take it on a daily basis while you're preggo?

The article I posted above explains why some have thought it is not good for pregnant woman, and why this is false. I just get it at Wal-mart in the supplement aisle. I think it was like $12 for a gallon. I'm taking 1/2cup a day and it has lasted for almost a month. So if your taking 2T a day (which is what is recommended for pregnant woman) it would last you three months or more. It might take a week or two, but it is a miracle food. I believe it works miracles. Dia Last edited by Dia Minha; 11-19-2007 at 05:28 PM.

Yeah 1/4 cup doesn't sound like much. You would be ok with that twice a day I'm sure. However, there is a lot of fat in that 1/4 cup. Healthy fats are good for you, but that doesn't mean you want to over do it. Eat your serving with a piece of fruit (peanut butter on an apple or banana) or a whole grain (Triscuits or whole wheat bread) and a glass of milk and you should help you feel satisfied. Dia

I've honestly never looked in GNC for a fiber supplement, but was planning on going there tomorrow to see if they had anything. I usually go to Dave's Health Food store in Salt Lake. The one I have been taking is called Organic Triple Fiber from Renew Life. It has flaxseed, oat bran, and acacia. Although now that Dia has told me about aloe I might try that instead because it sounds like it will be a heck of a lot cheaper. This particular one was about 17 bucks I think and lasted me a little over a month. Also, Dia, can I give the aloe to my kids too to help with their immune systems? Does it taste okay?

I noticed a difference within a week. I was doing some research on the liver when I discovered it, but my mom has known about it for a while and actually reccommended I use it for my son who has excema and digestive problems. It has done wonders for him. Yes it is gross. But don't taste it. Just swallow it quickly and then have a drink of juice or something to chase it down with. You could mix it in juice if you wanted to, but I feel like that just taints the whole cup of juice and I would rather just get it over quickly. Dia |
