everyone is so encouraging on this thread. way to go 5fd on your running and weight lifting. my shift button on my keyboard just broke.

you will get those days that make you just hate exercise and everything that comes with it. like sore muscles and an exausted body. just continue to talk positively to yourself even when it's hard. you sound like your doing great

I have noticed that since I have been going outside more often and getting fresh air my mood has changed. I feel more peaceful and calm. i am sure it is combined with my thyroid medicine kicking in and the exercise i have been getting. i am actually wanting to move and sweat more often.

i love summer

If I remember, I'll bring a new keyboard over to you. I've got more then one just sitting here collecting dust. If for some reason I don't show up tomorrow with one, please remind me or Diva.

The only reason you need that is to huck it at him the next time he pulls out his big strong opinion. Otherwise, it's just added weight.

I'm in need of some big-time pep talks in order to not give up on my goal here.

Please forgive my whining......
I think I will run the half marathon instead of the full marathon in May since I'm having trouble pushing farther. I'm not where I was hoping to be at this point. I was hoping to conquer this marathon before summertime, so I could have it over and done with and get back to 'normal' life without having to run hours and hours at a time....guess that's not the greatest of attitudes about it.....The shoes are great...but I'm just getting tired here.
I'm tired all of the time now. My body is getting weary from all of this running. Maybe I need to eat more, I don't know. Anyway, I'm rationalizing just doing the half-marathon and calling it good, after all the half marathon in itself is no easy task either.....but then I've come this far, and if I don't continue, I probably won't take the time to try this again, ever,...so basically it's now or never......I'm beginning to lean to the never.....had a bad work-out week....need some cheering up......Anyone good at giving pep talks??

How far are you running now?

A marathon is 26.x miles? Or is it 24.x miles... I can't remember.

Anyway, if my memory serves me even half way you're at about 16 miles now?

Ok, I went and looked it up. Marathon 26.2 miles or 42 Kilometers. Half marathon 13.1 miles or 21 Kilometers.

So you are more then half way there. I would dare to guess that at some point you hit "the wall" and maybe that's where you are at now???

You also need to remember that everything we do we hit a platue, getting past the platue is just a matter of time and being persistent.

So now that I've done my job (mr obvious), I want to say you are more than half way there. You CAN NOT stop now. Half marathon???? That's for sissy's and you Mrs llama are NO sissy. That job is reserved for me and me alone, otherwise you'd have called your self mamallama_sissy, but you didn't, so you can't now (like how I make up the rules as I go )

Seriously, I do not want to you look back on this with any amount of regret. You DO have what it takes. I know you do.

Couple of questions, and maybe a different thread would be better suited for this, but how does one prepare/train for a marathon? What is the training like? What are you doing that might be different? What sorts of food are you eating? How much sleep are you getting? Do you eat something the day before to prepare for you training? Should you be? What are other Marathoner's doing to combat this? Are you taking any vitamin supplements that would help to rebuild?

I know you are not alone when it comes to a bad week, or being tired, as running/training for a marathon is no small feat. Will it be worth it? YES.

Now something to think about is the mental aspect. Please be positive. I know it's easier said then done, but you CAN and WILL do this.

Oh, and if you'll take the armor off you might feel better; lighter anyway

LOLLOL LOL Thank you Thank you BS for snapping me out of the blues. Just what I needed! It's amazing how much encouraging words can lift the spirits! I think I need to stop and regroup here and set up a new game plan to reach the goal.....set a new date to have a little more time to build up to the BIG RUN and maybe try a few new ideas....vitamin supplements sound like a great idea, more sleep at night....I eat pretty well.....but I do hate increasing calories as I don't like the idea of gaining weight to do this, but then maybe that's what it will take to help push through....anyway, I'll take some time to reassess the situation and then it's back to work...
Thanks for your support.....oh and I took the armor off and lowered the shield...much lighter now thanks.....good idea!

I also heard just today that if you are training for something like you are, Protein intake is very important, as it is one of the major components in rebuilding a worked body.

They said that almost no one gets enough either, so that's another thing to consider.

Oh, and you are very welcome. I'm glad I could be funny, yet help you in some small way.

Thanks for the tip on protein. I'm sure I don't get enough. I'll add it to my revamped training plan list:

1. Take off Armor
2. Lower shield---better yet place on ground
3. Take vitamins
4. More protein
5. Lift weights
6. Don't be TOO serious....take in several doses of Laughter daily!

Seriously Thanks BigSissy!!

Here are a few thoughts I have. I don't know if any of this will help you, so you can use it or ignore it. When I am training for a marathon I definitely need more sleep. I recently read in Runners World that if you add up the total miles you are running that week, you need to sleep that many more minutes a night. For example, this is my training schedule this week. Mon. 5 miles, Wed. 10 miles, Fri. 4 miles, Sat. 20 miles. The total is 39 miles, so we need to sleep 39 more minutes each night.

With your food, keep in mind that for every mile you run, you are burning approximately 100 calories. So when you ran 16 miles, that burned about 1600 calories. That is huge! Aren't you about the same height as me? If so, the average women our size (who only exercises a little) only needs to eat 1800 calories. So on your long run, you burned almost all of what you would eat, just by running. The last month of training, when the mileage is higher, I eat A LOT. Lately I have been eating dinner twice (an early dinner and then about three hours later) because I am so hungry. Now is not a time to worry about gaining weight. I usually gain 5 pounds in the last month. Shortly after the race I am able to lose the weight. Just keep in mind, I am not giving you permission to go crazy and eat anything you want!

Are you taking in any calories while you run? About a month ago, DH and I ran 12 miles, and we just took water with us. The next week we used Powerade or Gatorade and I felt a difference. The calories in the drink gave me a little more energy. And do you use any kind of gel? If so, are you using it often enough? I usually use 3 or 4 while running my long runs. It helps me a lot. When Lance Armstrong ran his marathon, he used an energy gel every mile. Now I think that is overboard, but it is important.

How are you running? Do you take walk breaks? My DH and I use the walk/run method by Jeff Galloway. While training, we run half a mile and then we walk for a minute. By doing this, we rest our muscles a little bit, but we are still moving forward. When the minute is up, we are able to run faster because we had a little break. In the race, we do it a little differently. We run a mile and then walk a minute. It is very important to start this at the beginning of your run. Otherwise you get more tired. By running the marathon this way, we finish strong and we actually pass a lot of people.

These were just a few thoughts I had. Obviously you don't have to answer these questions to me. I just wanted to make sure you had the information. I hope some of it can help you, but maybe you are already doing all of these things. Good luck in whatever you decide to do!

That was great info, RAR. A marathon sounds do-able to those who never thought they could acheive it.

Wow! Great information RAR!! This is very helpful to me. Thanks for sharing. I somehow missed this post at first. I appreciate your encouragement and support so much. It really helps keep me going. I've gone ahead and signed up for the Ogden 1/2 marathon May 19th. The race starts at 7:00AM so we are going to go up the night before. RAR, what are your plans? Are you going up the night before? I'm pumped up and excited now.

I've decided to keep on training for the full marathon, but I'm just going to take longer to reach that goal....and I do feel better about it now. For me I want to feel stronger before running it. I'll see where I'm at in another month and then decide which one to sign up for. I hear the Top of Utah Race is a good one in Logan.

Thanks again everyone for all of your support and encouragement. It's amazing how much it helps!!

Woohoo! I am glad you aren't giving up! DH and I are going up the night before. We are going to drop off the kids at my parents' house, and then go. Do you have a place to stay? We are going to stay at the Marriott. They are offering a discount for people running. I like to walk around the expo. It isn't as bis as other races, but you can find awesome deals on Nordic Track running clothes. Maybe I will see you sometime in Ogden. Oh, and I loved the food at the finish line. The thing I remember the most were Creamies. I was hot after last years race, and the Creamies were perfect! Good luck!
