Conference Talk FHE

I was telling my sister last week how disappointed I was that my family missed both Saturday Conference sessions, and that while I DVR'd them, I was doubtful that we would all sit down for 4 hours to catch up. She suggested something she had done in the same situation a couple of years ago, which I thought was wonderful and maybe someone here would also like the idea:
She said they watched one conference talk each week for FHE and then discussed what was said. It was like a lightbulb moment for me- DUH! Why didn't I think of that? That way, not only can we watch what we missed, but we can re-watch what we did catch and break them down and discuss them at length, helping the kids to understand, and hopefully appreciate, conference a little better. We're starting tonight... We have to do this on Sunday nights since DH works late on Mondays, so I hope it works out and we can try to be consistent.

This is a great idea Bookworm. I was thinking it might be nice for us to use for family scripture study a couple times a week. My children get bored just reading from the scriptures every night, so this would mix it up a bit.

Here's one of mine in the same area. I don't play the piano and my kids aren't proficient enough to accompany us for FHE singing, so we've been singing the same 4 or 5 songs for YEARS. I get GC on DVD as a subscription, so I started using the congregation songs to accompany us! They already have the lyrics on the screen and you just turn the music up really loud. Then I discovered that you can use most of the special arrangement songs the same way by turning on the captions. Now we sing a lot more of the hymns during FHE so my kids are learning hymns better and better and more of them. I love the hymns!

Great ideas! I don't have a DVR, but we watch one talk at a time on the internet for FHE after Conference. DH & DS went to Priesthood mtg, but the satellite went out, so they missed most of it. They'll definitely watch it online, and maybe I will, too.

This is a great idea! Even just a great Sunday activity. On Sunday my kids don't care what's on....just as long as it's on t.v.!
