Default embarrassing moment

Okay, last night at the Stake activity it started raining and, thinking I would be helpful rather than take off running for the van, I tried to help get stuff under the pavilion and out of the rain. My flip-flops must not have any tread left, because I realized that I was slipping on the wet pavement, so I carefully helped push garbage cans, etc. under. I saw a lone folding chair on the lawn off to the side, and some kid's flip flops (not my dd's- we never did find THEM), so I hopped onto the grass, folded it and grabbed the flip flops.

For some reason, no alarm bells went off in my head, no reminder that it is slick, no 'BE CAREFUL' warnings from my brain, so I hurried back to the pavilion and WHUMP! I immediately went down onto my fanny. No, not just fell, but slammed down with a folding chair landing on my legs somewhere. I'm sure it looked comical to those around me, but I almost blacked out! Two nice people (thank the good Lord I didn't know them) came over and helped me up- I couldn't look at them, though, because I was trying to breathe and not cry.

I hobbled to the van, then. NO more help from me last night. I gasped all the way home, and my sweet kids didn't even laugh. Until we got home and I started to joke about it a little.

Well, today my butt and my back and my arm and my shoulder all hurt. Pavement wins. No contest. Me vs. concrete? I'm the big looooser!

It's funny now. Just a little achy. And embarrassing. So if I don't stay for all 3 hours of church on Sunday, it's because my bruised bum and tailbone won't handle those hard seats.

I told my kids (jokingly, of course) that that's what I get for being helpful- see if I ever help again!!!

So, anyone have an embarrassing moment to share to make me feel better? no, this isn't my only one. Just my most recent.

Poor thing! I am glad you are ok.

I am always tripping over myself or running into things. Anyway, when I take a stumble I have learned to immediately laugh out loud at my self.

Even if I am a little hurt I try to laugh and cry at the same time. It really helps me feel less embarrassed.

I think riding has brought that out in me, cause the good Lord knows I eat dirt a lot!

I almost forgot to mention.

If I forget to laugh at myself, my husband is usually there to do it for me

BW I laughed out loud while reading your story. However, when you mentioned how sore you are I felt so bad. Make sure you take good care of yourself. Sometimes a fall like that can really mess up your back. Do you have good health insurance? If they cover chiropractic work or physical therapy I would diffently take advantage of it. Oh something like Aflac would help too.

I can't think of anything embarrassing to share right now. I think I am really good about forgetting them. If I come up with one later, I'll let you know.

Go ahead and laugh, dia, I'm feeling much better now. My body ached in the morning, but getting going and that magical pill, ibuprofin, took care of most of it. I'm laughing now, too.

I'm glad your feeling better. Just don't be surprised if in a week or two you start noticing some pain in your back and neck. And if you do, remember how hard you fell, and get some treatment. Ok?

My mom took a hard fall several years back. She had some soreness for a few days and then was fine. Two weeks later she had a stiff neck and her back was bothering her. Her chiropractor was able to straighten her out. He said that she would have been better off, if she had come in right away.

Thank you for the advice, I'll keep it in mind. We will have insurance in a few weeks, so I can go in if that happens. I'm holding out hope that my body will heal up just fine, though.

I just saw your DH at the redbox with your baby- she has grown so much. I don't know that I've seen her more than once since she was born! She is beautiful, Dia.

Thanks. I think she is. Sometimes I catch myself just watching her. There is something about her beyond her outter apperance that is so amazingly beautiful to me.

Yeah. He told me. I was trying to call him to remind him to pick up some burn relief gel. He wouldn't pick up the phone. When he called back he said it was because he was talking to you.

Enjoy your movie.

Oh man, BW. I'm sorry to hear that. One time I tried to be "young and hip" and tried to learn how to roller blade. This was several years ago. I was feeling pretty comfortable and so I decided to do a little jump off the side walk onto the road. Not factoring in the law of physics I did so and my roller blades came right out from under me so fast. I landed right on my tail bone on the pavement. It was so painful. Before I started writhing in pain I looked to see if anyone saw me. Luckily I was alone (out in the middle of my street). So I let myself make all the noise I dared to make and then a lady came out and asked me if I needed any help. I was mortified.

I paid for it for about 4 months. I think I cracked my tailbone but didn't break it. I found out later while searching the web to see if there was anything I could do that roller blading was one of the #1 reasons people break their tailbones. I felt so stupid. Needless to say, it's been very hard to even consider picking up my roller blades since. I totally feel your pain, BW, I really do!

Ouch!!!! I seriously hurt my tailbone doing flips on a tramp when I was younger. I did a back flip, then right into a front flip...but I didn't go far enough back before going forward so I landed on the metal frame of the tramp then did a faceplant on the ground. I hobbled home, but never said a word because I wasn't supposed to be jumping on my friend's tramp & I didn't want my parent to know I'd disobeyed.

OK, here's my whopper of an embarrassing moment:

When DH & I were dating we went down to Lake Powell with a bunch of friends for Memorial Day weekend. We paddled canoes into an inlet & set up camp. We were roughing it and I had to go the bathroom. I'd never camped there before, so I asked where I needed to go. With my flashlight, I hiked up a ways & got down to business. I was right in the middle of going when a bunch of drunk boaters decided it would be great fun to shine their boat's bright spotlight on me. (They'd seen my flashlight.) I was like a deer caught in the headlights. All I could do was finish up and walk back down with as much dignity as I could muster. I broke into tears when I got back to camp. DH felt sorry for me and I was sooooo embarrassed!

Any other stories out there?

Okay, bookworm. What kind of sandles did you loose? I have some at my house that I found when cleaning up by the bouncy houses.

They are floral pink flip-flops and she said she left them over there! If they are hers, you'll have to tell me who you are so I can come get them.
Thanks

Geez, NG, I think you win! I would have DIED of embarrassment.

Yeah, Big Sissy, go ahead and laugh. Mock my pain. "While you're at it, why don't you give me a papercut and pour some lemon juice on it." (What's that quote from? Anyone?)

I can laugh about it now, but let me tell you--I was NOT laughing then.

Um...it sounds like... Happy Gilmore or Billy Madison, or something like that.

Are you going to tell us? It's killing me! I love movie quote trivia.

BW, your story is so good (although my body aches just hearing about it). And as a true friend of yours, I assure you I would have helped you up - before letting out the inevitable chuckle. I am SO proud of your kids for waiting to laugh until YOU made the first move. It's definitely one of those 'laugh about it later' episodes!

Natickgirl, your story is AWESOME, too! I can't even imagine!

I SO love hearing everybody's tales.

Okay, MM, you got a laugh, now your turn to share- I bet you've got a story or two.

I made the mistake of sitting back when I was on the floor, cleaning DD's bedroom and now I'm in major pain again. I think I may have cracked my tailbone, like Diva said she did. It only hurts if I sit a certain way... weird. If it wasn't funny, I'd be feeling sorry for myself. Little by little I'm getting better, but I've got to remember to sit LIGHTLY for a while.
