| General Conference is already more than I expected. I bawled during the first half-hour of today's first session. I have struggled with not knowing enough or doing enough for my family in order to help them make choices that will help them live like our Heavenly Father so as to live with him again. I could feel that everything I have wanted to say to my family, but have lacked the ability to say due to lack of time or inadequacy on my part was said in today's conference. I could literally feel the Savior's infinite atonement blessing my life through the words of General Conference. My favorites from the first session: Pres. Monson - he has such a way of making you feel like you're the only one in the room that he's talking to. Even though I was seeing him through my T.V. screen I felt as if he was sitting in a chair across from me speaking directly to me. Did anybody else feel this way? Elder Oaks - I could have listened to him all day long. I could feel my lamp being filled w/ anointed oil and each word he spoke was one drop. It was such a blessing to be able to discuss the sacredness of the Sacrament and our Sacrament meetings w/ my son who just turned 12 in May. One phrase that stuck out to me was (and I'm sure I'm not getting this 100% right), "Be clean, ye who bear the vessels of the Lord." I feel after listening to just this one talk I am able to give to my family as I need to give to them just at a time when I was beginning to feel I had nothing left to give. I am beginning to understand how charity works for all parties involved. Pres. Uchtdorf - I loved his message about hope and the difference in hoping for something and having hope in something or someone. In this case having hope in our Savior, Jesus Christ and his atoning sacrifice for all mankind. Last week's Relief Society General Conference definitely set the tone for me today - it prepared me so well to hear the words of our leaders. I am truly humbled when I realize the blessings that come to me just by being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints especially in a time when uncertainty looms with every waking dawn. | I too am throughly enjoying conference. My favorite talk so far was Elder Tom Perry. I constantly feel the need to go back to the basics and he covered them all. I love the way he said that we should take care of our bodies, because they house our spirits and together make our souls. I have been struggling lately with finding clothes that fit properly, are comfortable and still look nice. His talk confirmed the recent feelings I have had and I felt I was doing the right thing for me. I also felt a confirmation that the goals I have for simplifying my home and lifestyle are in accordance to what Heavenly Father desires of his children. He finished off with a reminder to keep our spiritual lamps full so that we can be prepared for whatever comes our way. A reminder to me that as I strive to meet the temporal goals of extablishing a house and home on this earth, I also need to continue to prepare for my eternal home. |

I love conference. I always feel "filled" after just one talk, so I come away from each session feeling as if I'm floating on the Spirit. I miss UT the most at Conference time. Just being able to have every radio & TV tuned to Conference is a great blessing. I was able to watch most of the afternoon session via internet, broadcast at 4-6pm local time. (Priesthood mtg is from 8-10pm!) I liked the talk about little children...I had just had a very negative episode with DD2, so this talk was a good reminder of how trusting & innocent children are & that I need to be more child-like (rather than childish). I was really impressed by the talk about the Savior. I didn't catch the name of who spoke (not one of the twelve) but it was so simple & powerful & straightforward. I enjoyed Elder Bednar's talk on prayer. Again, just a simple but powerful reminder of what prayer should and can be. I also liked Elder Christopherson's comments about Zion, particularly the idea (reminder) that "Zion" practices are celestial laws, and that we can't wait to live celestial law until Zion is organized, because Zion won't be organized until we are living celestial law. I also loved the Primary choir...kids always sing with such enthusiasm.

President Monson's talk in the Sunday morning session was my favorite on Sunday. Finding joy in the journey is something that I am always working on. I need to work harder at being happy where I am at instead of always wishing to be somewhere else.

President Monson's "enjoy the journey" talk was also my favorite. I need to re-listen to it. I've heard a million people talk about enjoying your children while they are young, and how you'll miss the messes and the tiny finger prints that are left EVERYWHERE. I love reminders and the wisdom behind these sentiments as a whole, but for some reason, hearing Pres. Monson's words definitely hit home a little more than usual. Such a wise and wonderful man!

I have to admit, I've had a difficult time adjusting to the idea that Thomas S. Monson is the prophet now. I loved Pres. Hinckley so much, and Pres. Monson has such a different style. However, after listening to the final talk of conference on Sunday afternoon, I was overwhelmed by Pres. Monson's spirit & love for us. (I'm sure it helped that DS & I chose to attend the session at the stake center, rather than watch it crowded around our computer at home. You really feel more a part of what is happening when you see it on the big screen.) I may not be as comfortable with Pres. Monson's style as I was with Pres. Hinckley's, but I know that he is, indeed, the prophet for our time. I am going to try to watch one or two talks online every day this month, to keep the conference messages fresh in my mind.
