Default Let's help - Proposition 8

I visited a Ward house while I was in CA and it was suggested to the members that they fast and pray for the people's hearts of CA to be softened for Prop. 8. (Prop. 8 "would change the California Constitution to eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry in California".)

It occurred to me as I was listening to this announcement that this shouldn't be something that only the members in CA fast and pray for, but that all members everywhere could fast and pray for this as it affects us all. So, therefore, I urge all members to pray (and/or fast) for this as well.

What a great idea. I only wish MA could vote again and reverse the decision here.

Stargazer emailed this to me. It is scary and frustrating at the same time. We need to find more that we can do whereever we are...I just don't know what.

My cousin sent me this link. Several of my ward-member friends know the family who protested when their son was read the book "King & King" in elementary school in Lexington, MA a few years ago. The family (who is LDS) was criticized and shunned by the school board & many in the community. Legalizing gay marriage DOES affect society.

I asked my cousin, who is a lawyer and lives in CA, whether government would really be able to force religions to perform same-sex marriage, should they become legal. He said that churches might lose their tax-exempt status if they refuse the comply, or might possibly lose their license to perform marriages at all, but that they could not be forced to perform same-sex marriages.

I was talking with my sister. She feels, and I agree, that same-sex marriage and the whole issue of homosexuality being a sin will become THE major dividing point between our religion and others. Even more so than abortion. I think we will soon begin to see much more persecution as we stand up for what we know to be right, as opposed to what is politically correct.
