5D recommended this book to me and I'm only on chapter 3, but it looks pretty amazing. I feel a little like I'm crawling out of a pit and the book is providing the rungs to the ladder. Would anyone be interested in a discussion group on this book?

I would. I have it on CD so I'm not sure how it fares compared to the book so if you'll let me know what Chapter three is called I could tell where I'm suppsoed to be on the CD....did that maek any sense? I'll get caught up....I might even be there.

5D figured out she is in chapter 5 in the book. Chaps 1-3 are mostly explanatory without specific assignments to accomplish. Oh wait, there is a short one in chap 3. I started chap 4 yesterday. Chap 4 has what I believe to be a fairly long assignment, so I'll be there a couple of days, if anyone wants to join us, that's where we are. 5D how do you want to do this?

I think you'll have to lead the discussion as I don't have the book so I have no idea as to where I am in it. Maybe what I'll do is go to Amazon.com and look for the book and check out the table of contents and that will give me an idea. Okay, so I think what I'm saying is, let me think about this for a little bit. As of right now, carry on the way you want to....you know I'm not afraid to step in where ever and when ever.

Well...the more I've gotten into the book, the more I don't know how to do a discussion on it. The assignments that I've done so far have been pretty personal. Each of us would do them completely differently and although it helps to see what others have come up with as a means of jumpstarting our own thinking, I'm not sure I want others to know all that's going on in my mind related to this. No offense intended to anyone, but I get a lot of flak when I talk about stuff like this and it often embarrasses me, because my choices always seem to be different than everyone else's. I recognize that as ok and perfectly normal, but it doesn't always work out like that in conversation with others. Does that make any kind of sense?

Yes. This makes sense. Maybe it's not about talking about it, but rather working through it at the same time???? I'm okay w/ just doing this on my own as well. That's how I started out.

Okie dokie. Well, I'm just about to start the stuff on finding my own governing values. I've done the roles and the "someday" list. I found that that wasn't as enlightening as I thought it might be. I guess I felt like listing all the roles was a little pointless, especially when we condensed them down in the very next step. I didn't suddenly discover some new role that I was filling that I didn't realize I was filling. Should I have? Did you? Did I miss something major? The reason I wonder is because stuff like "being my daughter's role model", which was the great discovery listed in the book, is built into the role "Mother", in my opinion, so even if such a discovery should have been made, I lumped roles like "motivator" and "task master" into "Mother" and then there weren't new discoveries, if that makes sense. One role I did come out with, which I felt was slightly enlightening, was what I called "Me Choices" and those are things like "dieter, swimmer..." the roles where I take care of me. Of the 8 major roles I ended up with, only that (and one other) was focused on me. All the other roles, while I enjoy them and benefit from them, I do for other people. I'm very curious to see how the governing values will add and hopefully find some new insights.

Because I know the reason you picked up the book in the first place my thought to this is be patient throughout the process and let Hyrum Smith be the teacher. What I've gained from this experience is a stronger desire to live my life more intentionally. I own more of my choices and I feel I do things w/ more purpose. It's hard to explain. This has been a slow process for me, but one that has been important to take. You may only need part of the process. You'll know when to put the book down if the time comes.

Sounds good. Just to let you know, I am done w/ my governing values, but I haven't done anything since I told you I'd do this group. Last week I planted my garden and today I planted a flower bed!!!!! Go me, but, then again, not so much as I didn't get any further on this than before.
