I picked my first cucumber today. It was about 8-9 inches long and the ends of it were bitter but the majority of the center of the cucumber was delicious. When they taste like that, should I let them continue to grow or are they too big and need to be smaller when I pick them? I hope this makes sense.

I don't know either. Up until this year, I've never had a cucumber plant make it out of infancy. This year I might actually get to learn how to make pickles. My mom makes the BEST pickles and I've asked her to teach me. Smelly stuff, but worth it!

Cucumbers need to be watered quite often (every 2 days typically). If you get a cucumber like we had that usually means it didn't get enough water.

Thanks BS for that wonderful information! Now, I have to set the record straight because there are some people out there who have asked me if we ever talk to each other. The answer is YES! In fact, BS was explaining all of this to me earlier this afternoon while watering my cucumber plants for me. (Isn't he a great guy?) I just read this thread and was laughing because it really does sound like we never talk to each other. What you guys don't know is we usually talk to each other but post the information anyway to either end the conversation or to have the information up there for someone else who may be wondering the same thing. Anyway, I just thought it was funny so I thought I'd elaborate. I'm sure you all can sleep better now that you know this.
