I am starting to get a lot of weeds in my yard that I need to pull. Does anyone have a system that works really well for them as far as getting them pulled up? I've heard some people pay their kids a penny or a nickel for every weed they pull. I've heard, water your yard before you weed so that the soil is soft. I've never tried any of this, I've always just gone out and done it when I have time (which is the middle of the day when kids are napping) but then the wasps are out and it's hot, blah, blah, blah. Anyway, I was just wondering if there was a more effective/efficient way of weeding than what I'm already doing.

Is the weeds in flower beds or in grass? You may want to call western gardens if you don't get the answers your looking for. If their in your garden or flower beds you may just have to pull them. My parents bought what they call an idot stick! I'm not sure where they got it but, it's a stick with something at the bottom that all they do is put it in the ground and turn it and the weed comes out. If it's in your grass you'll have to get some fertilizer that has weed protection in it.

We don't have flower gardens over here. Anyway....it sounds like I just need to get the fertilizer w/ weed protection in it then. Thanks for the advice. I really don't have a clue what I'm doing. I try to stay inside the house when it's hot because of all the wasps, for some reason they love the heat.

Hey about the wasps. There should be some kind of wasp kits to hang or put somewhere around your house! About the weeds, I too have been looking into this because my grass needs some major help, what I found was to use the "Scotts turf builder with halts" (this is fertilizer) it says that this will help get your lawn back from winter and help to stop crabgrass and other grassy weeds before they start. then in June put down another weed control called "Scotts Super Turf Builder with plus 2 Weed control" Then in August put another fertilizer called "Scotts Super Turf Builder with Summer Gaurd" this will help with insects. Then in October put down Scotts Super Turf Builder Winter Gaurd with Plus 2 Weed Control to feed your lawn and kill fall weeds. Before you just take my advice and put all these down on your lawn during those seasons mentioned, find out what kind of grass you layed or planted. I have found that this suggestion is best for Kentucky bluegrass, bermuda, bahia, zoysia, and fescue lawns only. If you have St. Augustine, Floratam, centipede, zoysia, or carpetrgrass lawn you'll need to do something different. If you do let me know and I'll post what I found out on that. But I'm thinking mostly in this area people normally put down either the kentucky bluegrass (which we have) or the bermuda, bahia, zoysia,or the fescue grass seed or lawn. Hope this will help you!

Hello, I don't know about you, but I love to work outside in the sun, those are my best days. I love "playing" in the dirt, pulling weeds, anything to be outside. So if one day you've had enough, call me and I'd love to come down, of course I'd have to bring my girls, but it would be an adventure.

You're so awesome LG, I love how you have the ability to drop anything to go and serve someone else. That truly is a talent...I hope you know it doesn't come naturally to some of us.
