Default To the ladies of Canyon Creek...

For you ladies in the Canyon Creek ward, just reminding you that my boy scouts will be making rounds to pick up donations for the homeless shelter tomorrow morning at 10:00- if you have any blankets, towels or coats to donate (especially blankets and towels) please have them on your porch in a bag for them by 10:00 a.m.! He's so excited to do this- thanks in advance for your support!!

Well, I guess that answered my question on Facebook. I will try to get them out before ten o'clock. I don't keep any extras of those things about my house, so I need to go find some, but I really want to donate, so I will find some.

P.S. do you know if the towels and blankets are new, do they want them washed? They just become more absorbent after being washed, so I just wanted to know.

Hey... my oldest son is doing an Eagle Scout Project for the same homeless shelter. How funny!! How did everything go? It's sound like a great success. Do you have any advice or tips to offer?

Awesome, LnF! Has he emailed or called Ashley Farmer? She's the liason for Eagle projects and volunteers. It went well, we did have a few people (like 5) call and say their bags didn't get picked up, but I suspect they weren't out until after 10:00am. They were done picking up donations within a half hour- they had like 5 cars driving kids around and I think if people put it out even at 10:10 they missed them. Oh well.

Have him talk to Jonah if he has any concerns- it went really well, I think. Now he just has to finish a couple of merit badges (three months of tracking exercise and household duties- completed at the end of March) and he's DONE! I can't wait! I'm so proud. This is going to be awesome for him. He's a good kid and LOVES scouting, so I'm really happy. He owes a lot to his great leaders- without them he wouldn't be this far already. He turns 14 in a couple of weeks (yipes!) and it's great to be done around 14...

Good luck, LnF!!

Oh, one other thing-- if he hasn't begun yet, and is interested in helping people in Tooele, someone in my ward said her dad is trying to get things together to open a homeless shelter in Tooele. She wanted Jonah to do his project for local people, but she didn't mention it to me in time- Jonah had already started the ball rolling, so it was too late. Anyway, let me know if you want her name and # and I'll get it to you.

But the SLC shelter REALLY appreciates the help, too, so either way.
