Default Wheat Grinder

I'm in the market for a wheat grinder and have no idea where to start. I have been using my moms and I like hers, but it is way to big for my little kitchen. What do you ladies like and dislike about your grinders? What brands do you prefer? Where is the best place to purchase from? Any help would be appreciated. We really want a heavy duty one for everyday use and a hand one for emergencies.

Thanks, Dia

Emergency essentials is where I'd start. They have the grinder I'd love to buy. The other thing I do when I'm interested in buyer's reviews is run a search on Amazon.com and read up on what others have said about the product they've purchased. Hope that helps! Let me know what you end up getting.

I'd also add that it might be a good idea to get one that you can run by hand if you ever needed to (lack of electricity). I think I heard they make them like that?

I'm bumping this up, because I know there has to be more of you out there that have a grinder. I could use your expertise in choosing one.

I really wish I could get one like my mom's, but smaller. She bought that thing second hand and has been using it on a regular basis for over 20 years. It is a stone grinder and set in a hard wood box with stainless steel bin to catch the flour. I can't find anything else like it out there, so I hoping that those of you who have bought one more recently can help me out.

Thanks, Dia

We have one given to us by BS's parents made about 20 years ago so I can't give you personal experience but Stacey Houston owns one and loves it. Call her.

Thanks, Diva, I don't know why I didn't think about that.

HEhehe! Came across this thread this morning and realized I ended up getting exactly what I wanted. We found it at a garage sale and paid $30 bucks for it. It is just like my mom's, but smaller. The ones like my mom's were selling for upwords of $300-$500 on ebay. Love it! It helps me feel blessed and watched over, even though it was several years ago that we found it, I needed to read this today. Thanks BnS!
