Ok...who sets goals (New Year's or otherwise) as a couple? Do you also do it as a family? How do you do it? and How long do you stick with it? What do you do to help you stick with it? I asked my DH about some couple goals this new year...I don't think I have ever done that. I usually set some new ones for myself, but he and I don't need to do everything together, so I never thought of including him before. But when I brought it up, he was all for it. But now I need to figure out how to go about it. Do we need a chart? Do we need a reward? I suppose we have to answer those between us, but I wondered if anyone else had some good advice for what has worked for them.

Well, first of all, E, let me just say CONGRATULATIONS! for getting your hubby on board with goal making. My husband would just say, "Whatever you think, honey." and that would be it. Not the team I envisioned. That has "Do it yourself" written all over it 100 yards away. What gets you motivated? Does a chart work? How do you work with rewards? My question: how did you get hubby on board? Last edited by 5ft Diva; 01-06-2010 at 03:51 PM.

Well...we TALKED about the goal, but through the holidays and the week of recovery afterward and all the craziness in our life (which you know about) has made it impossible to come back to it. I suppose it might have helped if we'd made a chart or set a reward of ANY kind, but we only talked about getting more exercise without really setting up a plan...so it doesn't get done. We have probably another month of serious craziness in our lives, so I would hope that we might, by that time be able to sit down and figure it out. My one thought as I'm typing this is to set a weekly date that we can go on IF we've done our 3 days of exercising...and if we haven't we have to exercise for our date instead of going out. So we'd earn a night out (we love to hit the free museums) or we'd exercise for our night out. Yeah, I think I'll bring that up...in about a month. And no, I'm not procrastinating. The craziness in our life is serious and all consuming...I say that for those who don't know the story, which is everyone except 5D, because I don't want you to think I'm just making excuses.

I really like this idea. We're not at a place where we (stress on the we) can make goals together, but this concept certainly works for me!
