Default Insulating others with kind words

We talked about being kind and saying kind words to each other tonight for FHE. This is one of the quotes that I loved. I particularly loved the part about insulating each other. What a beautiful concept. Anyway, just thought I'd share.

"Our home should ideally be a refuge where each member feels safe, secure, loved, and insulated from harsh criticism and contention that we so often encounter in the world." Elder Wayne S. Peterson

This quote really has gotten me thinking. We each have the power to insulate others w/ either good or bad influences. Experience has taught me that it takes a long time to tear one type of insulation down to to put up another kind. I can see why it's so important to be consistently positive with those around us, particularly our kids since that is who we have stewardship over. It's such a simple concept so I don't know why it's striking me to the core but it is. I guess I am just realizing that my words have a lot more power to them than I realized and they stick for a long time.

Aaahhh, how right you are. I hadn't thought about my core resonating w/ joy because my spirit recognized truth. Good point. Thanks for the reminder.

This reminds me of Elder Holland's talk on how powerful Words are and how we all need to be more careful as to what we say to each other. He talked about how we should NEVER say/use negative, belittling words to our children, not even in a joking manner. Because he said in a child's mind all they will hear and remember for years after, is the negative part. I'm looking forward to reading this talk in the Ensign to remember his exact words. It was so powerful and goes along with this great thought here that you shared....to insulate others with kind words!! Thanks for sharing!

I loved Elder Holland's talk as well. I didn't put the two together, though. What a great merging of ideas. That May Ensign isn't coming fast enough, is it?
