First of all, I am proud of you for starting your lifting. It's a very good thing if you were able to sleep after you worked out. If you are relaxed and can sleep then it's in your muscles (that's the good hurt). If it's in your ligimanets, joints or tendons then usually you can't sleep as easily (that's the bad hurt). One of the most important questions I have is if you stretched or not?? If you didn't stretch the lactic acid in your muscles will not go away as fast (this is the pressure in the muscles that makes them hurt). If you did stretch your muscles will hurt still... But you will feel less soreness and it will not last as long. When you start using new muscle groups you haven't used often it will hurt. The muscles will hurt because they are adapting to new things. It will go away if you continue exercising those muscles that are hurting. Keep in mind that it is important to keep lifting a couple times a week for the muscles to get used to the load given to them. And again, I am pleased you have started lifting even though your muscles are hurting. Good job!

When I started a couple of weeks ago, I was so sore I felt ripped up inside, though I can tell it was muscle and not ligament pain (as Finnican described it), but it took about a week to go away. Now I get very mild soreness after lifting, but nothing like the first time. Keep at it! It passes and you're stronger for it.

Yep, what happens is your muscles actually get little micro tears, and a lot of lactic acid build up (exactly what finnican said). So until the muscles get used to it you are pretty doomed to get sore at least for a little while. I too was completely in awe that you did it. that's completely awesome.

Oh I guess more excited then anything. Awe because you did it. I know or I think I know that you don't care much for working out with weights.
