I found a nutrition website today that I thought was pretty cool. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] is the link. There is a menu planner in which you enter some basic information and then you choose what you want to eat for the day and it lets you know exactly where that will put you as far as nutritional needs go. You can also register for their website and get more indepth information. There is a section that is especially for pregnant & nursing women and games for kids to teach nutrition basics. I had to use it for an assignment in which I had to calculate my exact daily nutritional needs in several categories (fat, cholesterol, protien, carbs, etc.) and then plan 1 day that would meet each of these needs exactly. Not an easy task. I was very surprised at the big differences little changes made. (In the end I could only have a 2 oz piece of roasted chicken instead of a 3 oz!) Any, I found it interesting and wanted to share. Last edited by happy scrapper; 04-03-2008 at 10:31 AM.

Thanks for sharing. I struggle with balancing total daily nutrition for all 5 of us. I tend to have "feast of famine" days, where the super-nutritious food one day makes up for the less-than-ideal meals of the day before. Hopefully it all works out.

I came across it through one of my classes. My professor had suggested using it for a project that is due this week. When I used it for my project I used the menu planner. It has you enter your ht, wt, etc and then tells you how many carbs, proteins, fruits, etc you need to eat and then you scroll through and make daily menus. I thought it was really cool and it was really easy to use. My problem is when I am told exactly what I am supposed to eat for a day I sit and fixate on food all day and end up binging at some point or another. Anyway, today I went back and actually registered on the site. Through the mypyramid tracker you actually enter what you ate for the day and all of your activities and it kind of shows you what you did that was good and things to avoid. I think this method will work better for me because then I will feel like I can eat what I want and reassess things later. I won't always be perfect, but where is the fun in that? I think it has excellent information not only for weight loss but for overall health as well. When I was planning out my daily menu for my class assignment I almost had to eat broccoli for breakfast just to get all those vegtables in! I think I just ended up having 3 servings at dinner. I know for real I don't serve that many vegtables with dinner regularly, but to get in 5 a day you would have to do 2 at lunch and 3 at dinner unless you had them for snacks. I feel like my family eats pretty healthy and yet we probably are only at about 1/2 our vegtable quota! Anyway, go explore the site. When you register all they require is that you make up a user name and password, email address and other information is optional. Have fun!
