Default walking shoes

Hi, folks! I'm hoping someone will be able to give me some advice- I'm not into running, but I am starting a routine of walking, and I went today for about 25 minutes, and by the time I got home my knee was killing me and my feet hurt a little. I am using a pair of reeboks that are about a year old- I am going to buy a new pair of shoes, but I need someone to tell me what brand to look at! I have wide, flat feet (I think I might be part clown!) and I think this is what causes the knee and ankle pain I have- I don't seem to have very supportive shoes. I have heard good things about new balance shoes- any opinions?

Thanks

Part clown? are you sure?

Almost all shoes are good. The key though is are they good for you.

We all have different feet and not all shoes are created equal in this regard, so you will need to go try some one and see which ones feel the best. I personally have a wide foot too, and have had great luck with asic's. However mine are a running shoe.

I might also suggest spending the time getting a walking specific shoe. They make some great ones. My mother and older sisters have been walkers for YEARS (it's a social thing me thinks), and they said that having the right shoes for the job makes all the difference. Of course that goes for anything you are doing. You certainly wouldn't try and go skiing with flippers.

That is a very good guestion bookworm.

I would like to start off by saying that when starting an exercise program there are pains that come, but by continuing to exercise and stretching the body will adapt to the given stress.

With shoes the brand doesn't really matter as much as the comfort and how the shoe fits and how does it feel to walk and run. The best option I can give you and any body without seeing is that if it fits and it's comfortable and it's not the most expensive or the cheapest shoe it mostlikely will do the job.

Name brand shoes most of the times cost more than no name brand.

When bying shoes it is a good thing to ask a sales clerk for help (taking that the clerk knows the shoes he sales) to find the right size and the right kind for the right purpose.

Hopefully this helped.
