Default weight loss men vs. women

Why is it that my husband can look at a treadmill and lose weight and I who workout 3-5 times a week and try to watch what I eat can't seem to make the scale change in any direction but up. I know hormones are different and make it harder for us to lose weight but I have had it. Men don't care as much about their weight so why can't they be the ones to gain it. Plus our clothes make it so hard to hide anything. Okay, so I just needed to vent!

I couldn't agree more.

I actually heard that if you focus on losing weight, you attract weight to you because weight is the focus. You'll have to ask BW about this idea. She's doing a diet centered on this idea.

It is hard not to focus on the weight. It is all that is on my mind right now! The hardest thing is that I am trying to get my daughter to put on the weight without putting it one myself. I have all this crappy food around to help her with adding fat and it is so dang tempting. My husband can eat it of course, and not gain an ounce. I just look at the food and on come the pounds. Oh well, such is the life of a woman. I stress because my daughter is way under weight and I stress that I am a two ton heifer.

Okay, I'm gonna guess that this is not one of your rational moments. Get a grip, you can't be that big. Stop stressing so much. Stress itself will bring on weight gain.

It's not that I am enormous it just that I get frusterated that I work so hard to lose the weight I do have and my husband just thinks about it and it's gone.

Here is an article that might explain it in a way that you have never thought about it before. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] If you search around the site a little there are several more articles you might find interesting.

Oh, and by the way. I know exactly what your saying. It is beyond frustrating for a women who has been overweight pretty much her all life to live with a husband who is the same weight he was in highschool, (although he did go up one pant size) and at times seems to eat like a pig.

SO WITH YOU ON THIS!! My DH and I should both lose 50lbs to get back to "healthy" weight range. I work on it constantly. He doesn't. But when he does, he takes off 10lbs with a couple of weeks of treadmill work and ordering a salad now and then. I don't lose a thing...or at least the scale says I'm not losing a thing.

I read this article [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] a couple of weeks back and decided, I REALLY have to not let the scale tell me how I should feel. I also recommitted to myself that my goal is HEALTH, not super model perfection (as if...). I run because it is healthy for me. I eat good food, because they are healthy. I go to bed on time, take my vitamins...healthy. Is it too much to ask that healthy include losing a pant size or two???

I would totally have to agree. I don't think it is too much to ask for little drop on the scale or a little extra room in your pants while we are striving for health.

Sorry that I'm weird...these kinds of things make me curious, so I looked it up. It is "hear! hear!" which is an expression of approval according to Websters.

Cool, thanks. I have heard it often, but I don't think I have ever seen it in writing.

Can I make a suggestion without seeming pretentious?

Instead of using a scale, use measurements. I can not stress enough that muscle weights MORE than fat. So if you are using a scale to gage your success you are going to be frustrated, especially in the beginning.
