Default Workout Updates as of April 2007

Okay, so now it's April and I was wondering if everyone has been able to stick to those "New Year Resolutions" to get healthier, fitter, leaner, etc. I don't really think that anyone had a NYR but a lot of us did have some goals we were working towards. Tell us how you're doing?

I'm up to 3 miles in my 5K workout now. I found a route that I can jog my kids to school w/. They're really excited. I'm afraid that it's going to be raining tomorrow though. We'll see. Anyway, someone saw me today that hasn't seen me in a while, I guess, and said, "What have you been doing? You've lost a ton of weight!" I felt so good. It's not what I've been trying to do, it's just a bonus but it's the kind of bonus that lets me know I'm on track. I do feel healthier and I'm so conscious now of the types of food I eat and what beverages I drink. It's definitely not where I was say....3 months ago.

I appreciate so much the help I get from this site. I had no idea that I'd be this affected by all of the advice given on this website. I feel so empowered to make good decisions when it comes to food because I have been educated and I know exactly where to come if I have more questions. Thanks guys! Keep it up!

I'm the same. While no one has noticed (except my DH), I FEEL healthier, eat healthier and I'm amazed at the distance racking up on the treadmill. Since this was my new years resolution, I'm on track! I'd like to lose some weight, but I'm finding the scale staying the same, but I know there's less of me. That's because in the midst of running, I'm also weight training.

I can't wait to see you, 5D! It's been awhile!

I don't know if you'll see a difference...I can't. Like you, I'm not noticing a difference on the scale either.

Just remember muscle is more dense then fat, and consequently weighs more for the same amount of space. I guarantee you, your muscles are getting more dense as you work them out. So pay no attention to the scale. I'm actually surprised you haven't gained if anything.

I am not doing as well as I wanted to regarding weight loss. As most of you know I discovered my inactive thyroid in the middle of all the working out and just about a few weeks ago I have really been able to give it my all.

I do feel leaner and have more energy and I think I have lost an inch or two. Clothes fit a little better and I am not as sluggish.

I only drink water and fat free milk. My food choices haven't been the best lately. I have discovered that when I focus way to much on what goes in my mouth I am to aware of all the goodies. I am just going to eat with intuition and not obsession.

Great job 5fD on your success. I did notice the other day in church that you looked leaner. Keep it up!

Are you serious? That blows me away. Thanks for the compliment.

Hey, I loved what you said about eating w/ intuition rather than obsession. I don't know if I've ever heard it put quite like that before but it's the best food intake plan I've ever heard. Thanks for sharing that idea.

I have hit another major plateau with my weight loss. My WW leader and I joke all the time that once I hit goal I will be a professional maintainer and won't have to fight it like a lot of people, because I have had so much practice. I understand that loosing weight isn't what is important. I am striving for better health through weight loss.

I think a lot of times I try and tell myself that the weight doesn't matter if I'm eating right and excercising. However, I know to much to believe it. Weight is a measurement. If I am not at my healthy body mass index, then I am still doing something wrong. I am either eating too much, (or too little) or excersising too little (or too much) or I have a physical condition that is preventing me from loosing weight. I can not reach ultimate health without reaching my ultimate healthy weight goal.

There is a gentlemen who attends the same WW meeting as I do. He is a runner and runs like 3 marathons a year. He joined WW after his doctor told him he could stand to loose 20-30lbs. He had some health problems that were caused by excess weight. Can you imagine? Someone running up to 3 marathons a year and still not considered healthy. It really shocked me. He has lost 25 lbs and is running faster and better than he ever has before.

In regaurds to my excercise goals, I look back over my excercise chart and there is only one week I didn't get in four sessions and two of the weeks I had five. So, that is moving along nicely.

I still feel like my goals overcoming emotional eating are lacking. I'm concentrating on rewording and redefining them to see if I have better success. My major goal is to be in control of my eating instead of my eating being in control of me. I have tried establishing new routines and keep getting knocked off my feet. I have another major obstacle coming up here in the next few months and my fear is that I will let it get the best of me. I'm concentrating on positive thoughts and working on incorporating them in my daily habits.

I'm am so excited for all of you that are succeeding in your goals. You are all an inspiration to me and keep me going on my bad days. Thank you so much.

Dia

My doctor did say that gaining before losing is common. Your body is converting fat to muscle and as BS said, muscle weighs more. We need to convert a lot to lose the flab and get the firm. And it's not easy but it's worth it (or so they keep telling me...).

Yes, I can believe that someone who runs marathons could be overweight. Marathon runners come in all sizes and shapes. It may sound strange, but it is difficult (and not smart, imo) to lose weight while training for a marathon. At least in my experience, when I am logging a lot of miles I feel like I am starving. I constantly want to eat. I usually gain about 5 pounds during the last month or two of training. After the race is over, I am able to lose the extra weight.

I just want to let all of you know I am proud of you for working so hard. I have heard so many people tell me they want to be a runner. But they don't do anything about it. You guys are! You are awesome! It isn't always easy to do your workouts, but isn't it worth it? Think of how far you have come, how healthy you are becoming, and how you are setting a great example for your kids. And I am talking to all of you who run, walk, do aerobics, or whatever. Keep up the good work!
