Default If You Could Choose

If you could choose what character or item that your child would fall in love with, who or what would it be?

For example: I love Winnie The Pooh. I have had four children that I have tried to convince that they too love Winnie the Pooh and have failed. Recently my 19 month old has developed a fascination with Winnie The Pooh. She loves the books and movies. I am so excited to make her birthday quilt, because it is going to be Pooh Bear.

So what about you? What child like characters do you love, that you wish your children loved too, so you could use to decorate their rooms etc.?

When I was young I loved my Cabbage Patch dolls. My girls love playing with dolls, so I just assumed they would love Cabbage Patch dolls as much as I did. Last year Santa brought each of them a Cabbage Patch Kid that had matching hair and eye color. I think they played a little with them that day, but after that were tossed into the toy box and have sat ever since that time. Even now I find myself going down the doll isle and showing my girls the Cabbage Patch dolls, but all they say are the other dolls they like better. How can this be possible? I'm hoping some day they will look at these wonderful dolls and fall in love with them. I'm overreacting, but I took my doll everywhere. It meant a lot to me.

This is a good question, Dia. I'm not sure. I think if I were to want my kids to fall in love w/ anything it would be bugs and worms and stuff like that. That's the kind of stuff I loved as a kid - and still do. I loved climbing trees and playing in the mud. It drove my mom nuts. So, if I were to decorate their room it would have to be them walking into a completely different world where the bed is built as a loft that was made to look like a big giant tree house and cute bugs painted all over the room. It would definitely need clouds painted all over the ceiling. If I thought I could swing it, I'd put a sandbox in their room as well.

Luckily for me, my kids love most of the stuff I've shared with them from my childhood- Looney Tunes, Animaniacs, The Pink Panther cartoons, even The Monkees (which I didn't grow up with, but watched on Nick at Night when I was about 10 and got addicted). There have been a few things they hated that I loved, but mostly they love any of the silly stuff I loved. I did watch some "Smurfs" and "Fraggle Rock" with younger sibs, but I don't like them enough to share. My kids didn't care much for the Muppets, which I loved, but that's okay.

We even spent a few weeks watching musicals a couple of months ago, and they liked most of them- not all, but most.

There isn't any one thing I wish they would fall in love with, though. I just want them to be as well-rounded as I was. I grew up watching cartoons, but also Marx Brothers, Danny Kaye, Hitchcock, Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn... I need to get some old movies... I'm getting nostalgic.
