Default Potty Training

I'm working on potty training my three year old. I know he can tell when he needs to go #1 but he can't relax enough to "release". He's so close and then just looks up at me after a while and says, "I don't know how to let it come out." Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions for how I can help him make that connection?

Here's what I've tried to help him relax:

Putting his feet in warm water
Running warm water over his hand

I'm a big advocate of the deep breath. I would probably try having him take a few deep breaths with you, and close his eyes. Also, I'm assuming you are careful not to put too much pressure on, but just a note- it's very hard for boys to perform under pressure, in the bathroom... potty training is so much easier when it's relaxed and rewarded and not rushed before he's ready.

You've been through this 3 times already, right? You'll figure out the right trick or words to say.

Maybe he feels a tingle, but really isn't quite ready to go. Maybe he should have a big drink of water when he is feeling the need to go- that might encourage it to move along.
Good luck!!

What about letting the water run just enough to make that trickling sound in the sink. (kind of sounds like peeing)

Also maybe step outside the door where he cant see you for a few seconds while the water is trickling.

Oh, I always gave a sticker after teeing in the potty and they got a tattoo for #2
(a fake tattoo of coarse, they can be found by the dozens for $1)

My boys loved that!

Anyway, its a tough time. Good luck!
