I just was wondering how you guys like your wraps and what you put on them. I really like wraps and love to hear different ideas.

Diva, do you just use tortillas? I think I'd like wraps if there were something thinner than a tortilla to make them with. I've never made them!

Tortillas, yes. Not very often though because I want to make something that is really good and they aren't spectacular at all. Thus the "Wraps" thread. The only thing I know that is thinner than a tortilla are those egg roll wraps (the kind we use for making our egg rolls). If you do find something thinner that you like, please share!

Bookworm, there are thinner tortillas. I don't know if you would think that they were thin enough. I like them because I can fit as much stuff in them as a thicker one, but they have a lot less calories. I believe they are just called thin or maybe light. Macey's use to carry a whole wheat one that I really like, but I haven't seen them in a while. They were thinner, but had lots of fiber. I had a recipe to make my own whole wheat ones at one time and you could make those has thin has you like. I'll have to see if I can find it. Dia

I also use plain tortillas or lately I've been using corn tortillas for the fiber and lower cals. I just stuff mine with dark leafy greens and put two drops of ranch dressing. Sometimes I'll add orange or yellow peppers as well. If I have have it, I add cooked chicken. If I'm in the mood I add salsa. I steam the tortillas in the microwave in a plastic bag for 20 seconds, so they'll wrap around easily. for soft taco size tortillas, you can get like two cups of salad in them, so you have a solid serving of veggies when you do that. And it's good stuff! I made some brown rice and taco meat with black beans the other day and DH has been eating that in his wraps, so I know that's good too.

Corn tortillas are also higher in iron and are considered whole grain. We do what we call a Siomara taco. A women in our ward, before it split last time, had a taco stand where she made authentic South American food. She would take beans, lettuce, cheese, tomato and wrap it in a warm soft corn tortilla. We would do ours with black beans, lettuce, cheese and salsa. In order for corn tortillas to fit into my food plan I have to make polenta. This is a corn meal mush that you can back as thin or thick as you want on a cookie sheet. The longer you bake it the cripier it gets, which makes for a good substitute when eating chips and salsa.

Here is an unhealthy wrap idea! Sometimes I buy the Tyson chicken breast tenders (like chicken nuggets but better meat!). I'll cook some, and put one or two in a tortilla. Then I add cheese, lettuce and ranch dressing. They kind of remind me of the McDonalds snack wraps. My kids love them. If you wanted them to be healthier you could make adjustments. I have also made something similar to this but I also added seasoned wild rice. My kids aren't big fans of rice so they prefer it without. You could make a pizza wrap. There was a frozen yogurt shop where I grew up, that we loved to buy their pizza wraps. Instead of a tortilla they used a pita pocket, pizza sauce, and whatever toppings you wanted. They were yummy!
