I'm going to write a review on a recent museum we went to. I understand others went there over Spring break, but for all those interested in finding activities for kids...here's a spot!
We went to the BYU Paleontology museum last week. It is SMALL but was about as much as I wanted to do. They have several dinosaur skeletons that are just impressive. You see the movies and read about them with your kids, but until you're standing next to a real live (well...dead) skeleton, you just don't quite have the concept. It was fascinating to see that one dinosaur had two rib cages -- one connected to the spine, and the other across the front connected to a sternum, I guess.
The also have a skeleton of a sloth, which for me was the scariest...I think because it is sitting on the floor and SOOOO much bigger than me. And they have a replica of a t rex skull, which is originally housed in the NY Natural History museum, so I pointed out that this was the skull that was acting like a dog in the Night in the Museum movie. They thought that was cool.
The little info plaques were good and we took our time looking at each thing and reading about it. We were the only ones in the place toward the end of our visit, so we could move around as we pleased. (The kids started a game of hide-and-seek, while I was in the bathroom and I didn't bother to stop them...what could be more fun that hidenseek in a dinosaur museum on a Friday afternoon?)
The best part is that it was free and that is always a good draw for me. It is open from 9-5 on weekdays only. I recommend it!
