Default Overnight Locations

This is for those field trips that are far enough away that they require a night away. For those campers out there, this might be a fun thing to go and camp and then do some sight seeing with the kids. We've done this to Bryce Canyon and Moab and we'd love to know of some other locations that would just be a night away from home.

Thanks for your help!

So I'll start again, with our trip to Moab. Last fall, our 5th grader and our kindergartener were both studying ancient indians in their classes, so we planned a trip to Moab to see the rock art. We used this information ([Only registered and activated users can see links. ]) to guide us, because we've never been to Moab. We realized we were weird for going all that way just for the rock art, but we did and it was a lot of fun!! We did also visit Crazy Horse point and Wilson Arch as well. It was spectacular!

We left Friday after school in early November (which is the off season for the area) and drove to Moab. We checked in to our hotel and promptly headed for the pool (part of the reason we go on these trips is the chance to go swimming in the pool and we aren't campers). The next morning after breakfast, we spent the day looking at the various rock art sites around Moab. On the way back we visited Crazy Horse Point and then headed home. We got back around 10pm.

Preparing was easy because we just took my 5th grader's Social Studies book and read the chapter on it as we drove down. That helped him study and in some cases we could point out the windows to certain things that helped him understand some of the problems of indians in our area.

This is a trip that I'd love to plan for my family. My kids have shown an interest in this.

I found another overnighter that we're thinking about. It's the Castle Valley Pageant, which found on this site:

We're thinking to stay in Price and do the pageant which has some pioneer stuff before it and then see the dinosaur museum in Price the next day. Unfortunately the good dinosaur place in Vernal has been closed since 2006, so we can't go there.
