| Okay, because I am a visual person I am having a hard time wrapping my head around this concept. Would someone mind giving me some more examples of what she's talking about so I can understand it better? TIA!! |

| Good question, Diva! Hmmm... It's an interesting perspective on those two words. It sounds like feeling is the inward reaction (is that the right word??) and emotion is the outward action- when you act on a feeling combined with a thought, that is emotion? Strange. I don't remember reading that before- I like how you break things up, Diva. My style is much more like swallowing it whole without tasting all the different flavors. Thanks for pointing out this paragraph. pondering... |

| Tasting all the flavors, eh? I like that. I never considered my style in that way. I've always seen my approach as a liability because the slow speed tends to irritate people around me. Okay, so your response makes sense to me, BW - and thanks for responding. I think I'm having a hard time grasping the concept because what I feel and then how I (re)act according to those feelings usually happens simultaneously. I guess the purpose behind this book then is to help one be aware of what they're feeling before expressing their emotions so that the emotion is honoring their feelings. Does this make sense? So an example of this could be a child's feelings are hurt because someone called them a name so then they hit the child who called them the name. The feeling is "I'm hurt" the emotion is then "I hit" or rather, "I'm going to hurt you". Very interesting.... I'm trying to apply this process to my own emotions when dealing w/ my children, but I'm not quite able to pinpoint the feelings associated w/ them yet which makes me think I've been burying feelings for quite awhile. Yikes! Boy, talk about getting to the point. I felt like Dorothy on the "Wizard of Oz" traveling on the yellow brick road - only I'm headed in the opposite direction. | Oh well said about the purpose of the book. So you're trying NOT to go home to Kansas? You like the munchkins? I don't usually even think about how this stuff applies to the kids' behavior- that's definitely something to think about. |
