I can't wait to hear too. When we did that as a family it was a BLAST -- and my mother in law was along for the ride, so that says something

First of all, Diva why the heck do you have THAT ticker??? My heart just leaped. I'm not ready to think about that yet.

The photos I posted are the ones I took- you all should see those my DH took. Yawsa. He is so good with that camera of his...

The waterfall is Multnomah Falls and it is right on the highway that follows the Columbia River along the Oregon/Washington border. You can't miss the turnoffs. It is so beautiful. We stopped there last time we went up in 2003 and just had to stop this time, too. It has a great short hike, and a longer one (which we didn't do). Love it!

We had a good time. My favorite time was with just my core family the first few days- particularly when we went to the Redwood National Forest- it was so beautiful. We loved that part. Once we got to Oregon, it was cold, rainy and icky weather. I've been twice before in July and would recommend NOT going anytime before July. It was nasty cold, but my boys wouldn't stay out of the water! They love the ocean. I can't wait to take them to Southern California next year- they are going to really enjoy that.

We spent 3 days in Oregon with my in-laws, which was trying at times, but mostly okay. We went to the Newport Aquarium- which we had been to before also- and we loved that. They have some new things that weren't there when we were there last. The Oregon Zoo was okay- we went on the last day of the trip, and it was the only warm day while we were there, and we were somewhat disappointed with the zoo (as well as very tired by then). They have some beautiful exhibits and a few things that Hogle doesn't have that were interesting, but Hogle has more animals overall (imho) and our new tiger exhibit kicks butt. We also went to the Sea Lion Caves. It was cool, but I won't ever pay again to go down the elevator into the cave- it was NOT worth $33. You can see some sea lions from up above without paying, so I would just do that next time.

I am still reeling a little- I'm just so worn out! I'm also still cleaning and unpacking stuff, but I'll get back into my daily grind soon enough.

It was really fun- there are few places as beautiful as Northern California and the Oregon coast.

Wow, thanks BW. It sounds like you had an awesome trip. I'm going to take a look at what roads we will be following and see what we can do to work in some sight seeing along the way.

Thanks for the synopsis (is that the right word?) of your vacation. I loved it! Sounds fun. It takes me back to when we went and saw the Redwoods. I would love to go again and stay longer than an afternoon this time though.

You're welcome! Dia, I looked at the map, that waterfall is somewhere along I-84. If you are traveling through Idaho to get there or to go home, you will probably be taking that road. On our way, we went West through Reno, and stayed in Redding, CA. so we could spend a day in Redwood Natl. and then when we came home, we went North to Portland and East on 84 and then down to Nampa Idaho. It is such a long drive either way, but I think we got to see some beautiful things along the way. What city are you staying in in Oregon? We stayed in Lincoln City.

I'm feeling back to myself today- yay! I felt really funny for 2 days, so it's good to finally be back!

Diva- it was nice to see you last night.

I'm not sure what way we are going. We decided we would like to do some sight seeing along the way to make it more enjoyable. We are headed to Seattle first for a wedding. We will be spending a couple of days there and then heading to my sisters in Deer Island Oregon. That is just about 30 mins. Northwest of Portland, right up there in the little crook of Oregon right next to the Washington border. We will be spending 4 or 5 days with her. She lives on a small farm up there and there is so much for the kids to do and see without even leaving Aunt Mary's. We will spend a day or two on the coast. We are kind of thinking about one day with the whole family and then sending the kids back with my sister and mom and then Elder and I can spend a night and day out on the coast just the two of us.

Anyway I'm really excited and you have given me at least one more place I would like to visit. It is just a matter of sitting down with a map and deciding how long we want to go the first day and how long the second and work the stops into our time line. I really need to get busy if I'm going to get reservations made.
