I hope this isn't too personal, but I learned so much from the R1 discussion that I thought I'd start one on presidential candidates. Who would you like to see as our next President and why?

Definitely Mitt Romney, and not because he's LDS. He was the stake president in this area a few years ago, and I have heard WONDERFUL things about the way he leads. He doesn't dictate, or make a decision based on only his desires. He gathers as much information as possible, from all sides of an issue, and makes the best decision he can based on the information. He also had good family values, so he won't be embarrassing himself, and the country, with indecent acts and wasting taxpayer money in lawsuits & impeachments. He has extensive experience in business, and can work under very stressful situations. Based on his actions during the 2002 Olympics turnaround, he isn't afraid to cut unnecessary costs & "perks" in order to shape things up financially. He also waited until he could afford to finance much of his own presidency race before he threw his hat in the ring. (What an idea: you don't spend money until you have it! The national deficit could use his expertise.) He can work with democrats & republicans. And I am confident he would surround himself with people who have experience in certain areas he may be lacking in--like foreign affairs. That's my opinion. There are many more reasons, but I have to go. I'm eager to hear what others have to say.

I know you want a serious answer, but I have to share...my brother figured out that Mitt Romney and my maternal grandmother are 2nd cousins. I have the same great, great, great grandfather (and grandmother which you have to mention since there were 5 wives) as Mitt Romney's great grandfather. That makes us 2nd cousins twice removed. Yeah, I know...tenuous at best, but it was kinda cool to have my brother call and say "pull up the family history will ya? I want to know how we're related to Mitt Romney". I'm the family history keeper in my family. That said...his being my relative or his being LDS isn't going to convince me to vote for him. I might, but I haven't made my decision as yet. Gotta do some research first.

I'm not quite sure who I'm voting for as well. I'm like E, I need to do a little more research. I feel so overwhelmed by all of the information though, so I've been a little hesitant to even start. How's that for a plan? Anyway, I do know that I WILL NOT be voting for Hillary Clinton. I suppose that's a start. What do each of you know about each of the candidates? Where can more information be found?

Amen, Diva. Please not Hilary... I can't imagine what would happen to this country if she got elected. Something to consider: I understand that if you aren't a registered Republican, you can't vote in the primaries, but if you're registered, then you get to voice which Republican you want on the ticket. If you're a Democrat, I think that you don't have to be registered to vote in their primaries... I could be wrong, though. So, the point of that is, if you are voting Republican and want a say about WHO gets the party nomination, get registered! I understand you can register at the polls during the next vote. I hope that's true...

I haven't paid enough attention, so I'm not positive about who I will vote for, but right now I am leaning toward Romney. I do know that I DO NOT want Hillary Clinton to win. If a democrat wins, I would lean toward Obama. I heard an interview of his, and I liked what I heard. That being said, I have not done any research on the candidates, so who knows!

I am leaning towards Obama. I am still doing my research by seeing how each candidate is voting.

Could you explain why, PG. I've hardly heard anything about him (other than he's a Muslim - that seems to be a huge issue) and would be interested in knowing what pulls you in that direction.

I have heard him speak a few different times and have really been pleased with what he has to say. I think that the country is in need of a different direction. I won't vote for Hillary Clinton for many reasons. I think Obama is the strongest and best democratic candidate but I still am doing my research. THere are a lot of different sites to educate yourself on the candidates. I just googled presidential candidates and a whole slew of sites came up. Project vote smart is a good one.

Okay, I'll look that one up. Thanks for the direction. I would have to say I'm impressed with Obama as well. He seems to have class and tact and really seems to have integrity. Something our country is in dire need of. I think that's why I'm impressed with Mitt Romney as well. Obviously I can't vote for both, I'm just sharing my opinions.
