4. How did Korihor regard the prophecies of the holy prophets? 5. How much of what you do from day to day in your personal life is governed by teachings you learned in the past from your father, your mother, the prophets, or the scriptures? What is the danger of rejecting these teachings?

for question 4, I answered "binding, foolish, and vain." Their answer was a little shorter, but I think it's interesting that Korihor would choose "bound" as a part of the thinking, since the understandings, teachings, and testimony of others is what grounds us, but also sets us free to understand more, become more, be more. Without that we are like kites that don't have a string...we fly for a bit, but then crash to the ground. I also find "vain" odd. How could it be vain to follow what you've been taught? It seems considerably more vain to be working to come up with your own take on everything. Is Korihor accusing believers of the same things he is guilty of? Question 5 I answered the same as they did. They added that it would be easy to be deceived too. That makes sense, if you have no sure foundation.

I've finished lesson 1. I answered like they did for most of the answers. I found the phrase "management of the creature" a little curious. Sometimes it feels like that's all I do...manage the creature in order to get to the Spiritual. I win most of the time, but would like to do even better. I also liked the part about "Satan not supporting". It brought to mind how very, very supported we are by our Savior. I felt blessed with greater understanding in that.

Our Stake President has asked us to re-read the BofM before Stake Conference in February. Since this wasn't quite the discussion I'd hoped it would be, I'm going to leave off this study and complete the Stake President's assignment. If anyone wants to do the course and have a discussion about some of the ideas, post here and I'll join you!

Erudite- I don't know if I ever told you this (probably not) but when I took that class you were teaching (the teacher development class??) a couple of years ago in the ward, you totally got me going reading the BOM to catch up to the goal the prophet had set- you gave us a reading assignment each week, I think- like from here to there... anyway, this isn't coming out the way I want it to, but thank you for that push to do it. I took the challenge from you and I did it, and it changed my life! All kinds of things opened up in my mind and heart that had been dormant for years. Reading the BOM quickly is a fantastic way to really get to know the people in it and really feel the spirit of it. So thank you for helping me learn that. And good luck with your new goal!
