Default Book: Goose Girl by Shannon Hale

Title: Goose Girl
Author: Shannon Hale
Pages: about 300
Genre: Fantasy

This is another excellent book by Shannon Hale. The "goose girl" is actually a princess who has been usurped by her lady-in-waiting in a new kingdom where no one knows her and is forced to find some way to sustain herself. She gets a job tending the King's geese. She has a hidden talent though...the ability to talk to birds and other things. The story is about growing up and taking responsibility for one's self and becoming what you want to become....oh and getting back her rightful role as princess.

The book was completely fun to read and kept me up WAY too late finishing it. She grows in tremendous ways when she is forced to take care of herself after having others do it her whole life. It's almost a bit of a stretch how much she grows, but good to see in the end. Also, I found the plot slightly predictable. While I highly enjoyed the book and can recommend it to anyone, I thought the Princess Academy was better, because the characters were more consistent and the plot less predictable.

GOOD STUFF THOUGH!!

My kids and I loved this book. I read it on my sisters reccommendation. Then I got the book on CD from the Salt Lake County Library System and the kids and I listened to it while going to and from dance for a couple of weeks. The book on CD is totally awesome. There is a full cast of characters. So instead of one actor reading the story and changing his/her voice for each character, there is actually a different actor for each character in the story. It was like listening to a movie. It really brought the characters to life.
