| Boys Should Be Boys written by Meg Meeker, M.D. I listened to this book on CD so I don't know the total number of pages. I did a search for it on Amazon.com because I was feeling clueless as a mother of boys and needed some help. The description I got was that it was a book about how to raise our boys into men in a world where boys are tuned into the t.v., ipods, and video games. I have found that there is a plethora of books written about boys. The reason this one caught my eye is because it talked about how boys who are plugged all day into video games and ipods are being misdiagnosed with A.D.H.D because they aren't being given enough time to be boys and I wanted to find out more about that idea. I'm so glad I did! I loved this book! The author thoroughly takes you through the life of a boy and what his needs are at each stage from birth to adulthood. I was fascinated at how much influence a mother has on her son's life in his early childhood years and how important a dad is in his life from about 13 on up. I felt I was given the blueprint to my boys. I feel I understand my boys' needs (especially because my husband has listened to these CD's and was able to tell me that this author is spot on.) The author includes many stories to illustrate the points that she writes about. I would recommend this book to the parents of boys (even if their boys are grown up and out of the house). I would probably recommend this book to any wife who is trying to understand her husband. . . | Sounds like a productive read! I've learned that I am quite clueless about boys. I never thought I would be, since the majority of my best friends growing up were guys. But, I am raising girls at this point and that's definitely where my comfort zone is. I got into the scouting program a while back and it was a little bit unnerving to me. I've worried that I can't relate in a way that would be beneficial to the little guys and that they would suffer as a result. I've learned to relax some, as time has gone on. Hopefully my love for them makes up for any "knowledge of the male species" short-comings. Anyway, I'm blabbing. Mostly just thought I'd tell ya that I'm putting this on my "to do" list for reading (or listening). Thanks for the review. |
