The NEW Star Trek movie is VERY good!! It has a super fun plot that allows it to go in new directions using very familiar characters. The acting was good. I though the romance needed a few more clues before it was sprung on us, but it was a fun addition too. I particularly liked the acting of the actor who played Spock. He did a good job of mixing logic with a bit of humanity. I didn't like the ships being staffed with cadets AND THEN those cadets are still on the ship at the end. I thought it would have been more realistic to have some movement through the ranks happen at some point in the story. I also didn't like the "Romulans". They seemed like an 80s cliche to me (think gothic punks) and what was up with their weird ships made from platforms?? All in all, I highly recommend it!! I don't have a single problem with my 13 yo ds seeing it, where many a PG-13 is still off limits. It was a great date movie with my DH who also likes the Star Trek world (we're not trekkies though!). What did the rest of you think of it?

I thought it was easily the best movie I've seen in many years- I loved almost everything about it- Spock and Kirk are not only excellent in their roles but very easy to look at... mmm... I LOVED the many references for fans of the old show- they were very funny, not over-done and didn't distract in the least from the film. My only complaints were these: The two women in their underwear was unnecessary, but not gratuitous, so it's forgivable. Also, I really didn't like Leonard Nimoy's storyline. Really didn't like that. I thought it looked like they hired him and then said, "Uh-oh, Nimoy said yes- what are we going to do with him??" And wrote his stuff in. It wasn't necessary to do the whole "parallel reality" bit with him- they could have just told a straight-forward story and been just fine. Oh well, it is sci-fi, so it's also forgivable. Also, my brother pointed out how stupid the bits with the little alien and Scottie were- like a little nod to George Lucas or something- just stupid. I didn't mind during the movie, but he has a point. Even with those few complaints, I really, really enjoyed this movie. I would love to see it in Imax before it leaves the theaters. It was excellent. There really wasn't a weak member of the cast, either- everyone was perfect. I LOVED Scottie and McCoy especially. Go see it!! Even for non-trek fans, it's a great movie!

Just saw it last night and really enjoyed it. I personally liked transformers better, but this is a close second. I thought the story line was a bit thin in places, and I didn't enjoy some of the extraneous stuff (kirk taking the car off the cliff, etc), but it was still really good. I also didn't terribly care for the Star Wars E.P. 1 feeling I got. It wasn't a show stopper by any means, but I spent some time bothered by it. All in all a great show though. I want to see it again for sure.
